some sort of infestation after dog PTS

our gorgeous girl left us 10 days ago & we seem to have a problem
whilst we had her we never had a flea problem, we used frontline every 4-6 months
as she was poorly towards the end, we were having to bathe her everyday and 3 days before she died my husband noticed some sort of tick around her rear end, which is where her problems were
a couple of days after she passed we started getting bitten, & it seesm like fleas as they were jumping, they've now been seen upstairs even though Nell could no longer make the stairs
Thursday I bought some flea powder from the supermarket and did the lounge & hallway where Nell slept, & also the boys rooms but they've also been seen in the utility room which has no carpet etc
My questions are - are they fleas or something else?
does the powder break some sort of cycle & takes time?
will this just sort itself out?
& more annoyingly, me & the boys have been bitten to pieces & not one bite on the husband!!

Sounds like fleas to me.
I used Bob Martin Fogger the last time we had fleas in the house and got good results. Remember to empty the hoover bag once youa re finished as the fleas can live in there and re-infect the house.
I don't get bitten much either which I put down to eating lots of Marmite. (I could just taste bad thought I guess!)Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Ah - didn't know that about emptying the bag of the cleaner - will have to get the unbitten one on that as its a sealed bag, & not reusable0

I wouldn't bother using any supermarket or pet shop products, they're very ineffective and you will just end up paying twice. You need a proper household flea spray such as Acclaim or Indorex
Either of these sprays will also give your home 12mths protection from not only fleas but lots of other creepy crawlies, including flies if you spray a bit along your window frames.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
had a look at the blurb on the Indorex - it says it cant kill off the pupa stage so may still get adult fleas - so how do I get rid of those ones that turn up after spraying?0

Stuff from the supermarket will do no good whatsoever. You will end up wasting money in the long run as they are so ineffective.
You really need to get proper stuff to deal with this problem0 -

as in Indorex that was recommended? - but how do I get rid of the adult fleas that the indorex won't kill
it wasn't el cheapo supermarket own brand - Dr Bob Martin I think the stuff was called0 -
Spray with a decent spray (like mentioned) and also hoover like mad!!!Hoover daily, empty the hoover.
I'd imagine they are fleas as you suspect, them being upstairs when she couldn't get there is nothing...they don't stay in one place!
You need to do the whole house aswell, not just a couple of rooms. They could be anywhere.
And no,the problem will not sort itself out...leave fleas without doing anything and they will breed..with breeding comes more fleas! If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

At the risk of being blunt, Bob Martin products are crap!!
Indorex does kill adult fleas! Not sure where why you think it doesn't. It's a powerful insecticide which will give protection in your home for up to a year. My personal preference is for Vetkem Acclaim but some of my colleagues prefer Indorex. Both equally as effective.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I went thru on the hyperlink where the Indorex blurb says that it has no response on the pupa stage so adult fleas will emerge from that - all a bit confused & still a bit upset with losing my girl0 -

Ahh I see where your confusion lies now. When fleas go through the pupal stage there is nothing that can kill them, the shell is impenetrable. However, once the flea emerges from the pupae it will be killed because you've already treated the affected areas with the spray.
The only way to physically remove flea pupae is to hoover, hoover, hoover as someone else suggested above. Heat & vibration are what cause the fleas to emerge, hence why a "sudden infestation" appears when central heating is switched on or people move into a previously unoccupied house etc. The pupae can lay dormant for many months.
I'm sorry if I was a little insensitive, I'd forgotten you've only recently lost your dog
