Great news on the pooch ive been following this post waiting for a happy ending so well done to you :T as for the stain washing powder with bicarb should work as the bicarb works as a natural deodoriser.0

Thanks for looking after Bouncer! You did a fantastic job!
Once I lost my dog when walking her in the park on a icy day - she must have run off in opposite direction and got lost. I was devastated and scared she may have slipped into river. I was very fortunate as a woman who worked in a local organisation saw her wandering on road up and down outside their office and rang me. It was only 45 minutes after I lost my dog that I got her call but it had probably been one of the worst, if not the worst, time of my life!
Regarding the blood stain - I've damped dried stains in cold water with mixture of bicarb of soda and salt scrubbed in which has worked very well.0 -
Please note I have not read all of this thread.......
Many years ago I phoned the RSPCA about a dove with a broken wing. I had tried to catch it but it managed to get through an open hedge into a field, it wasn't going to fly anywhere. RSPCA said they would only come out if it was caught. I then went back and told the farmer about the bird and he said he would sort it out.
I would suggest that the RSPCA going out and catching animals as they do on the telly is utopia. You cannot count on them helping you but when they're doing their stuff on the TV they never tell you that.. I understand that money is always an issue. Unfortunately the charities cannot provide the service they would wish.
When there is a good offer for dog or cat food I buy some for the local Blue Cross............0 -
Well done to all you kind people!0

Hi!!
Reading most of the above posts reminded me of a few years ago when I reported neighbours had gone away on holiday and left a dog in the house. Was told that if I thought it was without food, I could post some through the letter box for it!0 -
Aw well done OP, enjoy your warm fuzzy feeling!
I have had the RSPCA out twice now. The first time was for a cat I found meowing and wandering up the road, completely dazed- it kept falling over. I caught it, carried it home, and called them. They came out that afternoon about 2 hours later and took poor cat away. Later turned out cat had died- it had been poisoned, poor thing, things were very wrong with it when I first found it.
The next time was for a little bat who we found unable to fly outside the house. They couldn't come that day but came the next. We put little bat in a box until then- though it was secure- apparently not! Bat escaped- much to mom's horror- and I found a dinky ball of brown fluff curled up in the corner of our stairs. We left him there, sound asleep, until the chap arrived to collect him.
So both occasions they did come out for me and provided advice as appropriate.
I am just glad someone was there for the dog. I remember seeing a dog standing by a busy road, shivering, tucked up, in the pouring rain, all alone. I couldn't believe no one stopped for it. I was on the top level of a double decker bus and in a lane of traffic where it would not have stopped and I wouldn't have been able to get off if it had- but so many cars that could have easily pulled into a neighbouring lay-by just drove straight past.
I still wonder what happened to it.When you're going through Hell, Keep going!
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation
Just when you think human beings can't get any stupider, they get behind the wheel of a car...

This thread shows the importance of keeping a microchipped dog's details updated. If somebody gets a dog, or moves, they should always remember to update their contact details on the Microchip company's database.
I've known of a few cases now where dogs were at risk and the RSPCA has not helped. I only donate or volunteer with smaller dog rescues.
The following charities always need donations and volunteers to either foster dogs or simply transport dogs from pounds where they are about to be put to sleep to rescue kennels.
Sometimes dogs are saved at the last possible minute and they desperately need help.
Sometimes it's only a matter of finding somebody in the right place in the country to drive a dog for an hour and that will save it's life.
The main charities I donate to (and find absolutely tireless in helping dogs in danger) are: http://www.rochdale-dog-rescue.com/ http://www.lurcher.org/llink/forum/index.php

The recent TV adverts for the Rspca are really contrived, and you do not get a sense of reality .To be happy you need to make someone happy.0

The reality is tens of thousands of dogs being killed every year often by non-vet trained staff. Freezers full of corpses, bodies piled up waiting for disposal, and that's just in the offical centres. It doesn't include all the dogs having bullets put through their heads in DIY abbatoirs, like the greyhounds that disappear when they don't make the grade or get injured, etc.
I suppose they could show waiting lists as long as your arm of all the people waiting to dump their dogs, or the rescues desperately trying to free up spaces to make room for the oldies and Xmas pups from last year who will be dumped over the next month to make room for this year's latest model.
But it's Christmas, season of Goodwill and all that, people don't want to see the reality, it makes them feel bad and stops them putting their hand in their pocket. They want cutesy talking dogs, going to happy loving homes. That makes them go awwww and brings the wallets out.
Maybe we should make our own Christmas adverts?
Instead of the 12 days of Christmas we could have the 15 Staffies, and count them down as they die over the next couple of weeks. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
Just my 2 pennies worth on RSPCA and other charties...
A welldone to the OPThe dog is home safe with a loving owner who obviously was deeply distressed when it went missing
The RSPCA catch a lot of flack for various reasons, but I have been working closely with a wide variety of rescues for the past 4-5 years now, doing everything from running forums, fostering, emergency transport runs and most things you can think of. Some rescues are better than others at all ends of the scales to be honest. I've been involved with helping find homes for dogs rescued from a rescue that was certainly not fit to deal with ANY animal, and I have dealt with small, deeply dedicated rescues whom I have no problem entrusting even my own animals to if I needed to.
Earlier this year I finally was in a position where once again I could have my own dog and not just emergency fosters and I chose the RSPCA. The staff were fantastic, helpful and concerned that I really did know what I was letting myself in for (I chose a problem dog that had already been returned to them and had to go through a lot of talks and visits before they were convinced I knew what I was doing). I have also had to take a 6 day old kitten to them that I found my self in possession of after a farm cat abandoned it - I called them asked if they had room or a litter the same age, they had a queen already with a litter about the same age and said bring her down soon as you can and we'll see if she'll take to it - luckily she did and kitten was rehomed with the rest of the litter).
I think judging all of the RSPCA by some incidents is a little unfair, each person you encounter can give you a different impression and I've found myself disliking some but clicking instantly with others.
The RSPCA can't turn up to everything, they don't have enough staff, volunteers and I believe they have to keep a certain amount of capital in reserve in case of emergency such as the charity being shut down or not recieving donations etc so that staff can get paid until animals have been rehomed or moved off to other rescues etc. As for what salaries people get paid I honestly don't know how they compare
