Then I'm glad the police in my area don't seem to know or care too much about the law! If they had at least 4 poor dogs would have ended up in a pound rather than back with their owners within hours!

    Me too, overbudget :D

  • Great news about Bouncer - so glad to hear he has an owner who loves him - she must have been desperate with worry over the past couple of weeks. Well done MM for being the good samaritan. Without you they might never have been reunited. :A

I just nominated the OP for post of the month, I think your a star doing what you did.
  • Aw shucks - thanks! I'm all embarassed now

Bouncer aka MortgageDoggy is quite famous now - the lady who owns him said she is writing to the local paper with his tale of woe and how the RSPCA and council dog wardens let us all down - but I'm kind of thinking, its a good job they did, because otherwise dog probably would have died and owner would have been devastated - perhaps it is fate

Now, as for some practical help for me - anyone know how to get bloodstains off upholstered carseats it looks like ive murdered someone in there! Have tried dried soap flakes and washing up liquid but its not budging

  • When i went through that starry eyed animal phase that all teenage girlsgo throuhg i dida couple of stints volunteering in animal charities - first my local RSPCA, and then a charity that looks after aparticular type of injured wildlife. What an eyeopener. I found the RSPCA to be quite clinical - half the kennels was a boarding kennels and the staff were more interested in this. The end of my stint there cam when wegot a litter of 4 week old puppies in. They didn't even try - just put them down straight away. When i worked at the other place, we had to be inspected by the RSPCA every six months. They didn't do anything else for us, just told us what they thought we hd to be before they'd bring the animals to us. And bring them they did - if they picked one up at 0900 in the morning it would go into the back of the van to bedropped off with us at the end of their shift. Frequently by the timewe got them they were in incredible distress and often had to be taken to the vets for treatment or clearly should have been put down immediately. We spent 1 memorable 7 hours trying to unroll one of them out of some chicken wire - we had no clinical facilities. The RSPCA could have given it a whiff of gas and cut the damn stuff off in five minutes. They've got millions in the bank, their office staff are paid huge amounts(marketing positions are usually 5-10k above similar non charity positions). FInd alocal animal sanctuary to support if you want to help, or as other posters havesaid, only give food. MM you are a star!
  • MM Just wanted to say what a fantastic thing you have done, really heart warming.

Regarding the blood on the car, have you tried a strong salt water solution, usually works on fresh stains, but can't see why it wouldn't work on dried blood aswell.

MM, try biological washing powder dissolved in warm water, leave it to soak on the stain for a little while.

  • To be fair to the RSPCA, their main role is to prevent cruelty to animals - not to rescue lost, abandoned or sick pets/wild animals. There are others that do that - often some kind soul who does it for the sheer hell of it.

RSPCA do rehome - but it's usually animals that have been removed from their owners due to mistreatment/cruelty.

Glad to hear the happy ending, yes I too think good karma will be winging its way to you!! Regards the stain,I had bloodstain on matress once, and put warm water and 'ariel' washpowder on it leaving it for as long as possible, then wipe with wet cloth much later, it worked just fine. Ariel is very strong on stains., specially blood, You may need to repeat it a second time if its a lot or deep stain. Anyway, well done, you!
