Apologies - I haven't had much chance of catching up properly recently, so apologies if this all comes out even more random than normal. After another hectic weekend, A is now at school, Freddie's down for a nap, so I can finally post in peace

Ooh sounds exciting Tara - are they far off what you want?
Beenie - I'm soo sorry, I hope this crap means that there's something even more perfect just round the corner.
WM - just read back and I'm sending you hugs.
Sir Monster - things do get better. Freddie's just (and I'm touching wood with everything I've got here!) started sleeping through, and he's nearly 6 months.
Bruno - I don't know how you're managing to stay sane. I find it really difficult having people over, and I think I would have already be well on my way to a breakdown in the same circumstances.
MFD - congrats on Mr MFD's job - great news.
Becles - hope Charlotte's lip's better soon. And I laughed at your description of 'hide the teddy', that sounds like something Amelie would do
Sure I've forgotten plenty of things...

In lots of other countries the tax allowance is shared by the parents (such that say one parent earning 40k would be taxed the same as two earning 20k each). I think it is much better but unfortunately in this country you can't do that unless you are self employed.I really don't feel (well I wouldn't, would I...) that the tax/benefits difference between two median earners and one high-earner plus 1 SAHParent needs to be further swung towards the two median earners
Curse you, child benefit changes!

Bruno will have to stop paying £25 for a joint of beef!!
That won't be happening....
No in all seriousness and to defend myself, I would never normally dream of buying such a thing, it's a special-occasion item, big enough to feed 6+ and really top quality. Comparable to a Christmas turkey or something (but nicer)
Yes, in principle I should be able to do without child benefit. No, I don't want to
but perhaps more particularly, I really do chafe under my higher-rate-tax payments plus this new chop, vs two people earning say £35k each, higher combined gross household income, much higher tax allowance, etc. Wah and also woe is me. 0 -
That's it Susan, he'll have to go self employed! Anyway, I seem to remember them saying before if they got in it was something they would change to encourage more Mums to stay at home to help build up family life again. They are doing the complete opposite.Too many children, too little time!!!

I presume the looking at individual income is for practical reasons because of those examples you have just mentioned.got-it-spend-it wrote: »The thing with capping CB at two children is you are distributing it more evenly, but not necessarily to the people who actually need the money to feed and clothe their children. I get the stopping it for 'high earners' but looking at individual income rather than household doesn't seem like a fair way to do it, and what will happen where parents aren't married, aren't living together etc etc.
Although wouldn't couples with a SAHParent have CB in the SAHP's name anyway in order to benefit from the NI credits?Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

yummy - thanks for this. I think I might have to make both recipes to compare
I've also bought a giant cupcake mould on ebay  and eaten the last of the Dr Pepper cupcakes. That makes me sad. But the knowledge that I could soon make a giant one lessens the sadness somewhat
ooooh, I've been wondering about these. Can I ask if you paid a good price/got a bargain, as currently I just think they are overpriced

MFD he has no redeeming features. And at this moment in time I detest him. Ireally didn't want to come home after my lovely afternoon with my boys. Thecomplete ar5eyness that radiates from him pees me off. But i've learnt that the silent treatment works the best and i do ice maiden tremendously well. And he just can't hack it.
WM - are you getting decent sleep at the moment. I found/find everything about my DH is more detestable the more tired I am :rotfl:
If you, then I second what MFD said - rant away!;):D
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

Anyway, solution for us, company car can go that year. He will have to use a van from the company van pool therefore we don't get taxed on it. Will save us loads.Too many children, too little time!!!

Since it was his fault I hope he's got you top of his list to find a super duper house for.Bidding has already happened. Someone's being offered it today, and if they don't want it then they'll work their way down the rest of the "massive" list before me. I.e. more chance of winning lottery.
I've just rang him and all he said was "i'm sorry it's all my fault, but i can't do anything as we've made the commitment to the council"Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Now this is the question I want answered, are they saying if anyone in the household earns £44k or just the person claiming?Too many children, too little time!!!
