Bidding has already happened. Someone's being offered it today, and if they don't want it then they'll work their way down the rest of the "massive" list before me. I.e. more chance of winning lottery.

I've just rang him and all he said was "i'm sorry it's all my fault, but i can't do anything as we've made the commitment to the council"

Sir Monster - things do get better. Freddie's just (and I'm touching wood with everything I've got here!) started sleeping through, and he's nearly 6 months.
Bruno - I don't know how you're managing to stay sane. I find it really difficult having people over, and I think I would have already be well on my way to a breakdown in the same circumstances.
MFD - congrats on Mr MFD's job - great news.
Becles - hope Charlotte's lip's better soon. And I laughed at your description of 'hide the teddy', that sounds like something Amelie would do

Curse you, child benefit changes!

In lots of other countries the tax allowance is shared by the parents (such that say one parent earning 40k would be taxed the same as two earning 20k each). I think it is much better but unfortunately in this country you can't do that unless you are self employed.
