No Tia, I love you very much but won't run away with you.
Or was it something else?

Alex and I have been shopping in town. I have a new pair of black skinny jeans to go with my boots. Bought with OH's Debit card. They are a pay off for him to being allowed to go to the pub to watch the rugby. Yes I can be bribed. Said bribe does not however allow him to have his hangover in peace tomorrow::p0

I didn't really like The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. It was an interesting concept but totally unrealistic and turns things around so that the emotional sympathy is given to the perpetrators whilst the main victims are left for the most part unpersonified. I think it would have been better set in a completely fictitious context rather than romanticising and downplaying such a serious real historic event.I thought it was a strange film and a bit disturbing. Josh watched it at school and I'm still not sure that they were old enough to understand the main themes of the film. I think they would have been better off watching a film with a more accurate portrayal of events.
The film is based on a book and it completely takes away the whole idea behind it- Im guessing Josh may have read the book first in class? The book is extremely clever, it has no blurb at all and the only indication of the fact that it is about the awful events of WW II are the blue and white stripes that go around the cover. I have read this with year 8.
However, only those with knowledge of the war would make the connection with the clothes worn by Jewish people in the death camps- very few children would. The book is written entirely from the point of view of a child and he has absolutely no idea about the cruel actions that are going on around him or what his father does. This is why it doesnt work in the film because WE, the audience can clearly see the setting. However, in the book, all the bot knows is that his father is moving to a place called Out-With ( Auschwitz). When they get there, he has no friends at all and sees people outside his window in pyjamas- he even thinks theyre lucky to be able to dress so comfortably all the time. He makes friends with another boy who lives behind a fence, they even share the same bday. Their relationship and this story are an introduction for younger ones into the history of the holocaust. It is also interesting to read with a class as I get to teach them about the past as well as discussing the moral implications of the novel (as some students still dont quite make the connection between the holocaust and the book, they just take it for what it is).
It really annoys me when books are transformed innacurately for film.My mobile phone is giving up the ghost and its chrger has just died so off to read up on how to get a replacement withough needing a new contract or spending much money - Its wasted on me as I only txt and call - I don't need cameras and t'internet etc....
Make sure you check out the offers on Quidco! Vodafone do some amazing cashback deals that sometimes include a free phone and up to a hundred pounds! I couldnt believe it when I saw them as DH had just got a new iphone on contract... we could have got 120 pounds!
Oh, those waiting for fairies- sorry, will be mon or tues when they fly as DH left the pushchair at MIL until weds, then kept it in the boot of the car when he went to work on thurs! I had been kept prisoner as I dont drive.Im over it now though after spending 65 pounds in Peacocks and then saving 90 pounds :T (buying lots of sale stuff) after Gill's brilliant voucher! Thanks again!
Ayana has only had 1 get up the past two nights now... im not keeping my hopes for anything, just taking advantage of all the extra sleep! I hope she's settling down now though as its been a bit rough these past 3 weeks.First baby born 10/06/10:heartpuls 6lb 10z:heartpulsI love my little family0 -

The book is a million times better - all the subtlety of the book is lost when translated to the film, and the characters aren't necessarily how I saw them in my mind IYKWIM, substantially so. I would encourage young people and adults to read the book if they get the chance.r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -

I'm laughing at how many of the same toys we haveA shared duvet is more convenient for in bed interaction though.
Is that what you call it in your house :rotfl::cool:.
Didn't manage to take Izzy on busses or trains today in the end, so will have to do a trip on the bus on Thursday instead (and possibly go to the station while we are in town to see the trains!).
Book signing was fun too, but Izzy refused to sleep, so we had to leave and pop her in the car for sleep. The journey home wasn't long enough for a proper nap though, and she wouldn't go back off, so now I have a tired and stroppy toddler on my hands. Which is hard when I'm tired and stroppy too but never mind!
What else was I going to say? SS I'm glad you've had a talk, and chin up Bruno, you can do it!Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

I haven't seen the film, purely because I heard a lot of things about its (in)accuracy. That sorta thing annoys the crap out of me, but I'm a stickler in that department. Better than the guy that wrote a memoir that wound up being completely made up!
Wow, someone just demolished a whole omelette! Better than the usual throw-everything-on-the-floor we usually get at dinner.
eta: lol, GISI I just realise DH was logged into Facebook when I liked your photo. Oops.top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

:rotfl:Michelle with your teacher head on! It is always rubbish when the film differs from the book though. Unfortunately a lot of people are surprised to find that there is a book, and that it came out before the film.
How's Ayana (and you) feeling after her cold, better for the extra sleep I'll bet.

Henry's having omlette tonight too!
:rotfl:at the same toys, Ladybird. They were probably mostly bought on glitches from MSE or from Ikea!
I will look for The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas next time I'm at the library. I don't really do films anyway so won't bother with that.
EA- if you're around is Lily ok? Saw your status on FB.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0
