No advice MFD but *hugs* for you. I know DH finds it hard only seeing T until he goes to bed and can imagine how hard it must be for you. It sounds as though he must need his sleep. The only thing I would perhaps tentatively suggest is do you think he needs another nap, possibly in the morning? Or do you think the childminder needs to give him more 'quiet' time so he doesn't get as worn out?

Is he the same when he's had a day with you as he is when he's been to CM in terms of tiredness?

  • Also since jake has started school he is so tired all night, he normally plonks himself on the couch and hardly speaks cos he's so tired, i was saying the other day its so strange ive not needed to shout at him for ages lol!! i had to drag him out of bed this morning too and he asked me how many more days at school, and when i said 5 he nearly started crying and said he was too tired lol!!

Thanks for your help everyone :) I dont know whether my method of feeding isn't helping.. as I express and bottlefeed and if he is still hungry I top him up with aptimal. My MW and HV seemed to think it was ok, I might get some of those TT anti colic bottles as I need to get some of the bigger size ones for when he is taking bigger feeds, I have got a boots voucher that I can use for them :) the reviews seem good. I will try the 'leg cycling' :p otherwise we have actually had a good day today, no tears.

I do think this is just something he has inherited off his windy father :p

My first day today alone with the baby :D

No colic advice but I wanted to say well done on first day alone with Theo. It feels like quite a milestone, don't you think?

Susan-I've only just read your letter as I was on my iPod earlier and I can't highlight white text. I think it is a very calm and measured letter on an obviously very emotive subject and I really hope they appreciate that someone as eloquent and thoughtful has taken the time to contact them and that they implement your suggestions.

No advice MFD but I empathise. I guess it is just that Benjamin is currently in such an active stage he needs that extra sleep, but I'm sure it will pass.

He is exactly the same every day, with CM, with me, with MIL. Some days the CM wakes him at 4.45pm for his dinner and he is still ready for bed no later than 7pm.

How very, very sweet! I can't wait until Benjamin is talking / interacting like that!!

When we get home I give him a banana for his supper and tonight I sat down on the sofa and he said 'No Mum, Nana' and then laughed his head off when I pulled one out from behind my back :rotfl::rotfl:

Hi kk, I used to come on this thread regularly but stopped once I went back to work. I do lurk every now and again.

My little boy had colic, screamed for 4-5 hrs a night . We tried evry thing, coleif, gripe, detinox, infacol. Its worth trying a few as differernent ones work for different babies. Someone told me my the time you try them all, they will have grown out of it.
A few things we found helpful was to carry baby upright, so a sling was good, we had babybjorn. Also there is a pic on miriam stoppards book of a baby held in a "colic hold". Have a look in the book or if you dont have it maybe google it. We used to just pace the floors with him and I used to pop him on the breast as it was the only way i could settle him sometimes.
We tried the infant massage too, cant say that it helped us but worth a try.
I found Dr Browns bottle good too for expressed milk.
  • MFD Joe was always in bed by 7pm when he was a toddler. I only got an hour with him at night. And as others have said sometimes he would be asleep in the car and straight into his bed, especially with the dark early nights when it was "darky bed time". I know its hard and you feel like you are missing out, but Benjamin loves you and obviously loves and cherishes all the time he spends with you.

Susan, I read your letter. Whited out for those who don't want to read.

Who are you sending it too? If you send it as a complaint to your local PALS, then they have to reply and take on board what you are complaining about and make any changes to improve services. I have found that it does work though if you want to know what action they take, you have to chase them up on it.

At our hospital, A&E won't deal with 'pregnancy' unless it is brought in by an ambulance (for whatever reason it would be too dangerous to go to the maternity hospital that is further away). I think it's much better, the few times I had to attend the EPAU, it was very discrete, was given a scan picture but was also told to slip it in my bag because other women may not be so lucky so although a public waiting room, effort was taken to ensure that you were comfortable. My friend lost her baby at 15 weeks and had to attend A&E several times with heavy bleeding, each time she experienced what you described, A&E staff not being able to do anything and being bewildered and resentful of the fact that she had been sent there, at one attendance her partner was made to wait in the waiting room and she was left in a room on her own for 2 hours before she walked out. Finally she made it to 12 weeks and got to go to the maternity hospital.

I personally think that it shoudl be standardised, pregnancy issues for maternity hospitals, not A&E. Whatever it will cost to set up in maternity units, it will save in A&E's.
