Hi jopatty, yes that's bound to be worrying. I haven't had a third letter yet but I do expect one. This fraud will be pushed to the wire. I have seen it on this thread that AF advise to phone 999 for police if anyone calls round debt collecting. That is what I will do. I am concerned that NFIB have not contained this. Why haven't they checked the Helploan HSBC account? Why are the Helploan and Balanceloan web-sites still running? Why are IJ still sending out letters? Why have so many people on this thread still not got their written CRN? Just remember we're all in the same boat and there should be strength in numbers (about 10.000?).

To me the fact that MCO Capital have not put anything about this on any of their websites and don't respond to a lot of peoples emails and letters makes it seem like they are the guilty party rather than the victim in all this. I suppose if the NFIB do know anything they may well be not trying to frighten those responsible and have them run off before they have amassed enough evidence to charge them.
If IJ start sending round debt collectors we should all do a mass action via a solicitor and sue IJ for harassment.
  • Nice one David, totally agree. I think that direct action in the end may be necessary as I'm not convinced that NFIB really understand what is going on. Certainly the AF web-site (and I'm a big fan of AF) is not sending out a message that this mess is being sorted.

I am in full agreement with your comments and questions - this whole farce should have been shut down ages ago! If NFIB and the CoLP are involved surely the first thing they would have done is to stop the further issuing of letters. Elementary I would have thought? There's just no excuse for this - pity we have no direct contact with NFIB and have to use AF as a conduit!!

Grahanqat identified an interesting web site - see post 671 but let me repeat it - and a few quotes from that site:
    http://www.intrum-justitia-debt-collectors.dpcregistry.co.uk/intrum-justitia-debt-collection-agents.html
The site is that of the Registry of UK Debt Purchasing Agents
    Quote for that site
"Some debt collecting firms are far worse than most. Some deal in writing thousands of tentative letters about hypothetical debt telling people they owe money when in fact they know they owe nothing at all. This ruse seems to work for these debt collection companies because they have observed that a small proportion of people will succumb to their threats although they realize full well they owe nothing to anybody.............."
Do these words ring a bell with folks here? Could one common thread be that we have all had loans (including a mortgage) in the past but have paid them off or are still paying them off?
Just my thought for the day!!!
  • Hi All,
Judging by your collective expieriences I have led a charmed life, before MCO Capital I had never been the victim of an ID fraud. Thanks to your advice on these pages I have been able to take action.
Have spoken to Police, AF and phoned IJ in Liverpool, they have promised that I will not be contacted by them again as they realise I have been targeted by MCO. Still dubious as to if this is enough.
Do wonder though, why a fraud of this scale has not made it through to national media.
  • AF said if a bailiff does turn up dial 999.
A genuine bailiff wouldn't turn up in a case like this without a CCJ being obtained surely? Anyone who does pitch up will be part of the scam. I imagine. In any case, bailiffs don't have a statutory right of entry - but phoning the police is a good idea. Take down vehicle reg nos too, in case they scarper.
  • Received my second Helploan letter this morning threatening Baliffs. I tried to cal Action Fraud to get CRN but they are jammed with calls and on line system keeps telling me to report to the bank and won't let me complete and on their web site it says don't contact MCO. AF have promised to call back but I have decided to write a letter to MCo so I have some record. Any other suggestions of what i should do ??

Bailiffs just cannot trun up at the behest of a debt collecting agency - they need a court order and I doubt very much if sucha court order would be forthcoming under the circumstances!!

I would strongly suggest that you keep trying to contact AF - but DO NOT press button 1 (for MCO specific calls) and await for an agent - also don't request a call back as that can take many days. Just keep trying! You could also complete their online form but you need to answer the initial questions in a specific way - see AF web page:
http://www.actionfraud.org.uk/mco-capital-limited-sep10 which advises on how to complete this form. This should get you are Crime reference number.
I don't believe that it's MCO you need to contact (AF recommends that you do not contact them) - call the number on the letter (usually 0844 576 5731) which gets you throught to Intrum Justitia in Liverpool and tell them that you have never applied for such a loan and ask that they remove your record from their files - I did this (in the presence of a local policeman) and they removed my record there and then - I have heard no more!! Hope I'm not tempting fate!!
    Good luck
  • Have called 0844 number on the letter and spoke to a very nice lady who confirmed they , the scammers, had my name, address and dob but had given an RBS account and a mob number neither of which were mine. She says my name would be taken off the list and a letter sent by Intrum Justitia sent to confirm this. She also recommended reporting to Action Fraud and getting a CRN number. Feel better already !!
