This I have done. AF were very helpful but I am still waiting for my CRN in writing.
Today I spoke to someone in the identity fraud section of helplan, press 1 for this, press 2 for that and press 4 (I think) for ID fraud. given a new number 08445675731, after a short wait and a bit of music I spoke to Trish (Liverpool accent) she took details then said I would be taken off their list. Updated AF web site.
I meant to ask her to confirm in writing I had been taken off the list. I may phone her back or write to PO box above. Any thoughts?
Important thing is to update your report with AF - like you, I am still awaiting confirmation of CRN in writing as promised. I phoned again last week and was advised that there was a dely in sending them out and that I should hear soon!!! (I should have asked for a definition of "soon")??
I don't understand why this is still going on and new letters are being issued - I thought that the NFIB/CoLP were all over them?0 -
You are right, I won't phone back. The girl I spoke to sounded like she was speaking from her bedroom while doing her nails prior to a night out, not like a professional office.
It beats me why letters are still going out with all the people looking in to it. I see that the National Fraud intelligence bureau have called in City of London police.
I have a box of letters, emails and so on on hand that I can produce in case anyone comes to the door. AF said if a bailiff does turn up dial 999.
As much as I would rather no one was in the boat,so to speak, it is always good to know that there are other people in the same position.
Does anyone know if Martin Lewis has involved himself in this?0 -

I'm not aware that Martin has involved himself - at least not openly - but I'm sure he is well aware of what's going on - and forum with 27,000 hits must get his attention?:money:0 -
Hi folks. just to add (or take away) another piece of the jig-saw, my particulars are: Location Lancashire, company director, not with Lloyds, on electoral roll, in phone book. Not sure we've found any common ground yet (unless the scam is actually to fool us into giving our ID away on this forum!)
The AF reference to phone book I think was by way of example, probably not literal. They were making the point that only fairly simple data already in the public domain had been used.
One other thing springs to mind. I had my debit card double swiped then hacked at Argos in Burnley. about 6 months ago. My bank spotted it and said this type of fraud was very common inside Argos. Changed cards, got the money back, and not sure how my address gets involved but has anybody else here shopped at an Argos in the last year? Any input appreciated.0 -

Like grahamqat, I was a potential fraud victim but for the intervention of my credit card company - the fraudsters had my credit card # but were stymied on my DoB. Result? I had to have my credit card replaced.:mad:0 -
Hi Geomacl, you're right, there's no clear pattern immerging yet. It's possible there may be no link. The Helploan and Balanceloan web-sites appear to be designed to steal ID and hack people's bank accounts. The ID fraudsters (many different ones) could have got all our details (Name, address, DOB) from a variety of sources with nothing in common. MCO attempted to separate ID fraud applicants from genuine applicants by contacting the CRA's. Real applicants would have a bad CR, ID fraud applicants would have a good CR. They already have £6 from 2 off SMS messages, from all loan applicants, to offset against the letters/envelopes and stamps (no they didn't use stamps, just inkjet printed the envelope post paid). They will only send the letters to ID fraud applicants because they have money. The real applicants have no money, so no point. Still no hard evidence of a single person getting a loan from MCO.
Slightly worried about the new AF web-site notice 13th Oct where NFIB appear to be going backwards believing MCO to be ID fraud victims again. Why haven't they checked the HSBC account? Why are the Helploan and Balanceloan web-sites still running? Why are IJ still sending out letters? Why have so many people on this thread still not got their written CRN? NFIB through AF need to be more pro-active in sorting this out and communicating their findings.0 -
My wife just called to inform me that I have received a further letter today. Confirming the alleged debt, that the interest has now doubled and if immediate payment is not received they will pass the information to debt collection agency Interim Justica.
I have previously spoken with AF received a crime number and had hoped with all the publicity that the authorities would have put a stop to this scam.
Has anyone else received this third one?
Hi Millau 37506178, I have received my third letter today. My balance has increased by another 213.00 as stated in the terms & conditions!!! If I don't pay, then the balance will be transferred to intrum justitia. I am starting to get jittery once again as I can't believe this company is still sending out letters. I had confidence in AF after speaking to them a couple of weeks ago. I contacted them this evening and they told me to update my details on their website. What is going to happen next? They have assured me that they cannot send bailiffs round to my house as it would have to go to court first. I am beginning to wonder!!!0 -
Hi jopatty, yes that's bound to be worrying. I haven't had a third letter yet but I do expect one. This fraud will be pushed to the wire. I have seen it on this thread that AF advise to phone 999 for police if anyone calls round debt collecting. That is what I will do. I am concerned that NFIB have not contained this. Why haven't they checked the Helploan HSBC account? Why are the Helploan and Balanceloan web-sites still running? Why are IJ still sending out letters? Why have so many people on this thread still not got their written CRN? Just remember we're all in the same boat and there should be strength in numbers (about 10.000?).0

Hi again jopatty this link about IJ may prove helpful:
http://www.intrum-justitia-debt-collectors.dpcregistry.co.uk/intrum-justitia-debt-collection-agents.html
It seems they have a long track record of being involved in scams and will pursue non-existant debts.0
