Re Prudence and David. My son has also been scammed by MCO Capital at this address. However he has not lived at this address since 2000; combination of university and then living in London. Never been on electoral roll here or registered for banking/credit cards even. In effect, apart from schooling he has no financial connection to this address. So we don't know how they have got his details. My wife has not been scammed (received any letters that is). Very odd.
Hmmmm - that is a total mystery and blows out of the water many of the theories we've had about how in the hell these charlatans got the details about our identities!!!

I did originally think MCO were the victims but the speed with which they agreed to remove my Experian searches (without any questions whatsoever) has led me to think they are the culprits.
I would imagine there will be link to your name and either a known fraud Bank Account and or a known IP address used during the application.

My theory is that it was a dodgy employee at some company selling it's database to some criminals. I had fraud committed on my current account the day before the MCO searches where done and from the speed at which Lloyds refunded my current account (2 hours, no questions asked) I assumed it was a dodgy Lloyds employee that had passed on my details. Are we all Lloyds customers I wonder? Possibly not but that's one thing we may all have in common.

Hi Davidbuk Nope - I am not a Lloyds bank customer - hmmmm. Mystery remains!!
  • My wife just called to inform me that I have received a further letter today. Confirming the alleged debt, that the interest has now doubled and if immediate payment is not received they will pass the information to debt collection agency Interim Justica.
I have previously spoken with AF received a crime number and had hoped with all the publicity that the authorities would have put a stop to this scam.
Has anyone else received this third one?

So far I have received only one letter (in September) millau. Receiving 3 must be a nighmare  - assume that you have phoned AF again to update them on this travesty!! AF will be able to update your crime report to reflect this new letter.
What was the name on the letter - was it MCO/Helploan/Balanceloan? And what was the telephone number - most other letters received have had a telephone number which took the caller to Intrum Justitia (note spelling - not Justicia!!)
    Thanks
  • I have received my second letter from HELPLOAN this morning telling me that I not only owe £513 but a further £213. Non payment = debt collection by Intrum Justitia.

I have registered with Action Fraud but have conflicting reports as to whether to write to MCO Capital??

Hi millau - my wife had 3 letters - one back in late July (from Gothia), one in mid-September (seemingly direct from MCO/Balanceloan) and one a week or so ago (also from MCO but with the Intrum Justitia threat). I had the first two only, maybe because I'd got further down the track with Experian than my wife had. She has now contacted IJ and it should be on hold.

I'm surprised that Intrum Justitia are still sending letters out. They must accept that anything to do with MCO has to be regarded as dodgy and I'm sure I'd heard that they had everything re MCO on hold. Obviously not.

Regarding where our personal details may have been sourced from - is or has everyone at some time been a company director, or linked to that legal (and unfortunately fairly public) status somehow ? That would apply to my wife and myself. The electoral register is (or was) an obvious possibility - we now know that a neighbour (but not his wife) was also targeted. Interestingly one of our kids is registered at home but didn't get anything from MCO - but they are registered as a postal vote ... maybe that's the difference? I guess the fraudsters could have used the register purely randomly anyway.

For what it's worth I don't think it's regional - we are in Hertfordshire. We don't bank with Lloyds either.

    Hi tellmeanother
It is important that you contact AF again and tell them about this second letter - AF/NFIB are still advising NOT to contact MCO/Helploan. AF will be able to update your Crime Report with this new data - I asume that you have a Crime Reference Number (with associated password)? If not then AF will give you one.
In my case I telephoned (in the presence of a local policeman) the number on the letter I received and we got through to Intrum Justitia - we told them that I had neither requested or applied for such a loan and asked them to remove it - they seem to have done that as I've not heard from them since.
Alan_se - I am not a company director and also have registered for a postal vote so how the hell they found me, goodness only knows - I am located in Scotland
  • I am on to my third letter, this time saying the 'loan' could be passed to IJ. Address on back of letter PO box 1361, Liverpool, L69 3HZ. Previously I emailed helploan and had a reply inside an hour or so telling me to put it in writing with my CRN.
This I have done. AF were very helpful but I am still waiting for my CRN in writing.
Today I spoke to someone in the identity fraud section of helplan, press 1 for this, press 2 for that and press 4 (I think) for ID fraud. given a new number 08445675731, after a short wait and a bit of music I spoke to Trish (Liverpool accent) she took details then said I would be taken off their list. Updated AF web site.
I meant to ask her to confirm in writing I had been taken off the list. I may phone her back or write to PO box above. Any thoughts?
