  • It’s possible that your virus infection changed your Windows settings to use a proxy server that will not allow you to browse any pages on the Internet with Internet Explorer or update security software – that’s what happened under the Security Suite Virus that my brother-in-law had. You could try these instructions (from bleepingcomputer, pictures omitted) to get internet access back:

Boot in Safe Mode with Networking (not just Safe Mode)

Start Internet Explorer, and when the program is open, click on the Tools menu and then select Internet Options.

Now click on the Connections tab.

Now click on the Lan Settings button.

Under the Proxy Server section, uncheck the checkbox labeled Use a proxy server for your LAN. Then press the OK button to close this screen. Then press the OK button to close the Internet Options screen. Now that you have disabled the proxy server you might be able to browse the web again with Internet Explorer, and run virus and malware scans.

Do you think that your son will be better at describing what actions have been taken? If so, we should wait for him.

If you can now access the internet download the latest version of Malwarebytes, once you have downloaded it, open Malwarebytes and update it before running a scan.

    Link for Malwarebytes...................

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

When you run a scan let Malwarebytes delete anything it finds and then post (just copy & paste) the log file.

    PS Well done towiggum

If you are in safe mode just now then go ahead, if you are not in safe mode just try downloading and see if it works.

Make sure you download the latest version of Malwarebytes, its top right of the link page, a green downward pointing arrow Download
    Latest Version

    5.87MB

You can try it first in Safe Mode with Networking.

    More precise instructions here:
Download, install, update and run a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes' AntiMalware. When complete, choose 'Remove Selected' if there is anything to remove and Reboot your computer.

After restart, open the program again and go to 'Logs'. Double click on the log produced for today and post the contents here.

Restart your computer in Normal Mode and run a Full Scan.
