Computer running slow (with large pictures)

1 aliEnRIK and Donnie, what information do I need to give to help sort this mess of a PC out?
2 IF I decided to put in a new hard-drive and some new RAM would that be an easy job? How would I find out what harddrive I needed?
3 How much RAM is enough? I think I remember someone telling me 2gb last time *confused*
4 Would it make the computer quicker?
5 Would I be able to use the info that Donnie has given me about making a bootable OS disc to re-install XP on a new hard-drive as we cannot afford to get a new OS (Would have Windows 7 if we could afford it and the computer could handle it)?
1 ~ Its not as easy as being told to do a,b and c. We ask for information, then we act on that information. Each and every case is unique
2 ~ Putting them in is easy enough. RAM only fits one way in and is simply clipped in. The Hardrive will be held in with a few screws and the cables only fit one way.
3 ~ 1Gb is usually fine for XP (I suspect you have 512Mb (0.5 Gb) or less)
4 ~ Almost certainly
5 ~ I'll leave that to Donnie. But you dont want Vista or WIndows 7 putting on it I assure you.:idea:0 -

Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Reboot (Restart the machine) and post a fresh hijack scan
(You do have 512Mb of RAM as I suspected, this is the main reason your having problems)

Please run COMBOFIX
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out
If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download
(If no log comes up or you lose it, COMBOFIX.TXT can be found in C drive):idea:0 -
