Have just popped on here for first time in days and was hit with 'interest rates to reach 5%'. Lots of motivation to really attack mortgage in 2011.
On a more festive note - hope everyone has had and is still having a fabulous time!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hope you had a lovely xmas cath.0

I did thank you, DD was fantastic - so excited by everything! How was yours?
Tried to do some number crunching for 2011 and am horrified by my CC bill! Forgot i put shopping and petrol on it. How do you live frugally for January when you are frugal all year anyway! Makes me glad we decided not to move house.
Really need to get out and buy some storage boxes today and perhaps move some toys into DD bedroom. I could move some of her furniture into bedroom 3 to make way for them. It's hard to believe we have a big playroom when the i can see the living room is full of toys - i don't know where to start!
DD had a keyboard on a stand with a microphone for xmas and i really am impressed at her talents, she appears to actually play it instead of banging it randomly! Oh to have a huge house where we could have a real piano, i would love to learn to play and so would DH.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Ours was lovely too thanks.
DD2 here got a shop so we have a shop / playhouse in the lounge at the mo. Not sure where it's going yet, but I'm sure we'lll sort something out.
I'm going to be number crunching later. Actually I think I know what I want to achieve and what I have left every month, it's just how to utilise the left over as well as making more to get where I want to be.0 -
I think i need to decide on a firm overpayment goal for January, am thinking around £250 but don't know how CC bill fits in with that, should have a bit on its way from Quidco and Onepoll though. DH has expensive dental treatment next month too which will get in the way! Went to visit my grandma today and was well fed by her so if someone feeds us all month we can overpay loads!
I would love to knock £1000 a month capital of mortgage every month - if only I had £600 a month to overpay! Can certainly do it every other month tho and it will be nice to see balance coming down quicker.
DD has discovered the delights of playdoh! it's keeping her very quiet but i think i am going to find it everywhere! Hunting for storage boxes didn't go too well, could only find small ones instead of the 'mega crate' style i wanted - i might have a browse online.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Music Magpie have declined all my cashback on Quidco and TCB, very odd!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

As the new year approaches I have set some short term targets. I overpaid by £922 Jun-Dec last year so can draw a line under that.
1) January OP £250 (have already arranged for 150 to go out on 1st with regular mortgage payment and will add another £100 when quidco and onepoll money received next week)
2) February OP £375 - this includes free c/tax month amount of 125
3) March OP £375 - same as ^^^
4) April £150
This would see me ending April on 115,077.89 so will add to this to round down to 115k. Used SS to see what months i had saved and it makes end date August 2029 (5 months early - i would be 47!)
Played around with rising interest rates and even a BR rise of 2% seems to wipe out this saving! Is it really undoing all our hard work????? I am hoping rates will rise v...e....r......y slowly when they do decide to go up. Makes it seem even more important to send any spare cash to the mortgage.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
