  • I resent paying for cable but would have to get an aerial fitted for free view. It is on my to do list as the cable companies just keep putting up the prices all the time. Crazy!

    Good luck with everything,

Great thread. Hope you don't mind me joining in. We just moved into our first home last year and now planning our mortgage debt escape route. :) Finding lots of inspiration on here... let's hope it keeps us going.

Thanks sss, we had a digital aerial installed a few years ago so hopefully be set up for that. We currently have some extras on our bill as part of a half price offer so not sure if that explains the big increase rather than the usual £1. Offer expires in June so I need to ring them in a couple of weeks.

Hi Idee, thanks for popping in. Good luck and making overpayments so early into your mortgage will have a great impact. Good luck! Have you started a diary?

Payday today and a good extra amount I have put to good use! First stage of money shuffle done, money paid off ever increasing t3sco card and a 34p Tilly tidy! Have also sent £200 to architect account even though I'm not convinced we will ever progress at this rate. Still no planning news!! I'm just glad I'm busy as only realised at end of working day they had not rung by which time it was too late to chase them.

I felt quite refreshed a couple of weeks ago after a couple of long weekends over Easter, however I am now exhausted and have gone to bed by 9pm every night this week!

Thanks. No, not started a diary yet but am thinking about it. It does seem to keep people motivated. :j I also find blogs really motivating and wondered whether to start one. We've just been overpaying in small-ish amounts so far, but hoping to sit down and do a new budget this weekend to see if we can wring out some more pennies for overpayments. Although I've been keen to ramp up the efforts, OH has been resistant until now. :T

    Money news?

Apparently 8ky are putting our bill up by £4.25, not if I cancel first! That's a ridiculous increase! Think dh is getting a bit twitchy about me cancelling but it's a lot of money to watch TV!

We got rid of Sky about 15 months ago, and honestly haven't missed it at all.

£4.25 is a really big increase.

I'd been sucking up the increases for years, but then I looked at how much it was costing for the whole year, and was horrified. It was a powerful reason to give us the final push to cancel it.

It is when you add it up isn't it. Ihave realised we may be tied into a contract though as when we took out latest half price offer we had a new box. We shall see, I can at least get the bill down for the remaining 6 months. Dh pays for the extras out of his overtime so be good to put this money to better use.

Dh has had a 3.4% payrise which is a lot better than my 1% I am considering increasing his pension once I know what his basic pay will be. I have also sorted out a direct debit which wasn't set up properly, paid what we owe and there was almost £30 left I had over-budgeted. Pennies sent as Tilly tidy and the rest sent to t3sco card. The balance is going to have to creep down into same way it crept up!

Gorgeous weather here yesterday so all washing line dried. Have a load to go out before work today before the cold weather returns! The sunshine makes everything a little easier doesn't it.

Totally agree on the sunshine. Damp here. Not sure washing will line dry though.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Both sets of wages now in so most things paid and will shuffle the rest over the weekend. Have had a really busy week at work so am more than ready for the weekend.

Hoping to book our first holiday abroad tomorrow ready for next year which is quite exciting. This wasn't an option when we were paying so much for childcare so am planning to put money to good use.

We were getting nowhere with planning at the moment and I am so frustrated by the process. Its been 10 weeks now and still no decision made.
I will also need tomsort budgets over weekend in preparstion for reinstating op's. I think basically if we stick to the amount I have in mind we will repay mortgage in about 9 years without additional borrowing. I think its about 19 for additional. I can cope with both of those options, I just need planning approval and a decent quote!
