Thanks everyone, we won't pursue those plans. I would always feel uncomfortable if it was passed amd we proceeded knowing the issues it would cause. I have replayed the conversation over and over in my head today to the point of it making me feel quite ill. I am hoping some clarification from the architects this week will help. I sat with our existing drawings earlier and it seems the best option is to extend our utility and extend above to create a bedroom. The house will be 4 beds, we won't have an ensuite but will have a downstairs shower room which almost suits better due to DH starting work so early and us exercising in the evenings.
Have tried to be productive and work through list, not sorted anything financially apart from noticing ISA's have recovered a little. I have sorted car insurance issue so will post tomorrow. dH has made soup I will take for lunches all week and the roast chicken will feed us for a few days. Managed to sort out our Easter holiday and pleased to see it's only 60 days away! We also have a friend with a caravan on a lovely part of the coast who has invited us to stay over, they spend most of the summer holidays there so we will definitely be visiting.
I honestly feel like this weekend has flown with no happy memories. Dd had a huge meltdown earlier and really seems to be struggling with her emotions. I don't remember feeling like that as a child so hoping it is developmental rather than a deeper issue.
Here's to a better day tomorrow.........June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Oh Cath, so sorry to read about the nightmare situation with extension. Fingers crossed that your architects can come up with a good solution for you x0

Really sorry to hear that cath, do you have to have access via the neighbours land?
Also have you considered a loft conversion? We were a 3 bed terrace and it has made such a large space (about 19ft x 16ft at a guess, can't remember!) and we have a bathroom with separate shower/loo/bath and basin which is not a bad size. It's bigger than my mums side extension of two bedrooms and an ensuite. No planning need, just building regs now, and no access to neighbours land needed , all done from hoping through house and working from front.
Sorry if this is an obvious one that you have already discountedanyway , hope you have a better day today.
Thanks newgirly, due to the style of our house we don't have the loft height unfortunately and no houses on our estate have had it done. Our house has a side extension and a garage on the other side which is why we can't access the rear without going through our utility.
Am really hoping that today is the start of a good week. Didn't sleep very well last night due to over thinking things.
18 days until payday which usually means wishing the days away! Going to be a challenge to stay in the black without money shuffling!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!1 -
Hope things are looking up for you..0

Thanks lulabelle. Dh went to architects yesterday to discuss and we will have new plans by the end of the week. It will cost is another £120 ish and he was confident our existing plans would have had no planning issues (we aren't going to create issues amd proceed woth original plan) However he also said new idea will be cheaper and I just wonder if everything happens for a reason. I think the idea dh discussed gives us downstairs shower room and will remain 4 beds.
Accounts looking slim and I am very conscious we need to re-apply to mortgage company or at least discuss with them. We have an existing offer of funds based on a new property so not sure if we can draw down those funds to extend here. Have tried to keep up to date with all relevant paperwork.
A builder had contacted also rang me yesterday so hopefully by the weekend we will have two provisional quotes. The weekend has just created a small delay by a lot of stress. Will feel better once the ball is rolling again!
Checked food budget account and looking good but I am really hoping to not spend it all! Am hopeful dh has enough fuel until payday and I will probably need to top up twice which leaves about £190 for groceries. I am hoping to just spend £90 so can put £100 towards fees.
I feel so much better when I have a plan. House officially off market too!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Glad you're feeling better Cath. I'm the same, the sense of being in control & pushing things forward is more valuable than anything! I also agree things do seem to happen for a reason, a few times in my life something that seems on the face of it to be a disaster at the time has worked out to be far better in the long run. I hope the new quotes do come in cheaper & give you all you're looking for in terms of spaceLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0

Best of luck with the mortgage lender - I'm sure that everything will be fine. You may find that you will need to submit a new request and they possibly want to come out to do a valuation and also want copies of the quotes for the work (depends on the lender really). I hope everything goes smoothly for you from here on in0

Thanks lulabelle, I wasn't aware that this might be the case. I am hoping we will have some quotes by next week. These will only be outline but at least it gives us an idea. I must remember to pay the architect bill too, it's going to be painful transferring that much cash!
Hally rewards have credited, think there is a little extra but will leave where it is until my head is clearer.
Wednesday tomorrow - woohoo!!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
