Just off to get the sticky thing....
Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for 2nd September 2010. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
[*]As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
[*]When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
[*]Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just fine.
Morning everyone,
Hope you are all well. I haven't actually been to sleep, but as it looks like I'm not going to get any sleep until it is nearly Friday I thought I'd start the daily off
I say it every time, but if I ever agree to another wedding cake, then please slap me. If I ever agree to another wedding cake with less than two weeks to do it, then please slap me really really hard. Still, it's finished now and sitting smugly (if cakes can be smug) on my dining room table. I'll see if I can post a pic once I've got it to work, if it survives the bus of doom. It was uniced yesterday. I have a new found love of pearl lustre powder, except I have only just realised that I am covered in it and it won't come off, so I look like I've been clubbing with a load of underage kids. My house looks like a life size snow globe and there is enough sugar in the air to cause air disruption over half of Europe.
I have decided, this weekend will be totally devoted to the horrible task of cleaning my flat. Having been buried at work for the past few months, the flat is terribly messy and it's driving me mad. I can't find anything! There are many things-of-non-organic-origin that have been in my fruit bowl so long they are applying for indefiniate leave to remain.
Have been mushroom hunting again; not that that's suprising - the dehydraytor has been running constantly. OH found larch boletes near his cep hunting site too and some charcoal burners in the woods. Dinner tonight will probably be mushroom based. Again. We have a plum tree near us that's in full fruit, but I still have a cupboard full of jam from last year so I am resisting the urge to forage. I often find I make jam then give most of it away. OH's parents were impressed with last years damson jam (they don't eat them in germany unless they are dried - and only then as a health food store laxative) so I might have damson foraging on my list later on.
Need to start packing for holiday as we leave in a week or so - need to find things first though. Probably should book something other than flights as well
:rotfl: :rotfl:Probably should find myself a hat too - as it will be cold, even if I will look a starnge in one (I am not a hat person). I worked out what the barren areas on the map are last night; I had never had learn the signs for glaciers before.
I have a spate of birthdays coming up at home, but I have managed to barter goods with a few other folksy sellers, so it's taking the financial pressure off a bit. I got a lovely crocheted mouse in the post yesterday for my nephew in exchange for some charms I made. He's so cute though I just want to keep him! My mum is the problem though as she's not easy to buy for - pretty much the only fail safe is that expensive face cream that boots make (can't remember what it is called, but it feels like the high vacuum grease we use at work) - but they do have boots vouchers on the cokezone site at the moment, which is great
Saving for a house deposit is not fun.
Right - must go and make more coffee. Looks like I will be needing it on drip for most of the day!
have a good day all, cel x

Good Morning Celyn & all to follow.
I know what you mean about your flat - I have tried to keep on top of the housework during the hols but now it needs a good scrub to to bottom.
Kids are back to school today :j:j
DD is fine but DS is nervous as he is going to senior school. He has loads of mates with him so will be ok. He has decided to go on the bus instead of us taking him today but I think I will drive there & just check he goes in! :rotfl:
Other than that I just don't know what to do with myself
not because I can pay a lady of leisure more that I have so much to do I don't know where to start!
Not sure what is for dinner tonight, have a small amount of leftover chilli so it could be jacket potatos.......
Better get going - have a great day.x0 -
morning Cel and essex girl and to those who follow:D
I havent been on here for a few years, but have been lurking for a month or so and need to get back into my old style ways.
I am also needing to do a thorough house clean, but I will wait until Monday when the middle 2 go back to school. My eldest starts secondry today - how old does that make me feel.
I also have a job interview this morning woop woop, Just praying it mine, sounds hopeful.
I have set myself A storecubpard challenge this week just bought the essntials of nappies marge and a little fruit. We have picked most of our fruit ( cherry plums, wild rasberrys and blackberrys ) for the last couple of weeks. Have loads still in the freezer waiting to be turned into wine and jam:T
have a good day all.

Hi everyone
Celyn - I've just looked at the lovely things on your Folksy site; they are beautiful!
Essex-girl - I hope back to school goes well!
Well, just five more sleeps until we leave for our trip back to the UK so I shall be digging out the suitcases today with at least one for the things we will be buying when we are back there - like teabags, baked beans, and all the other things that just aren't the same over here!
Dinner tonight is simple - sausages, probably with egg and chips; how very French! I'm running down the freezer this week; we have lots of power cuts here and, if we get any while we are away, I won't know how long they've lasted and whether anything has defrosted and refrozen, so we don't take any chances!
DH is still trying to get some renovating jobs done before we leave, which means I keep getting roped into helping - I think we'll both be glad when we're on the boat and can relax!
Anyway, the weather has been lovely all week; a bit cool in the mornings and evenings but still about 27-28 degrees during the day. If the whole of autumn and winter was like this, I'd love it!
Well, off to put the BM on.
I hope you all have a good day and good luck to all those who are going back to school today.

Morning all
Off to work soon, lets hope it's better than yesterday, we had no roof, no kitchen, no toilets, no hot water, no power, no food, no coffee machine, no bank pc's. Still on the bright side I was given a marrow & 6 eggs in exchange for a recipe book.
Should have been carbonara for tea tonight but hubby asked for HM fish & chips, so that's what I'll do.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hya Celyn, Essexgirl, Freya and all to follow. Thanks for starting th thread Celyn. I do envy your knowledge of fungi I would love to know which ones are edible.
I am also in need of major, major house clearing and cleaning and decorating - just paint nothing fancy:)
Made pasta sauce yesterday and turned leftovers into chilli. Used podded old French beans but they are not quite mature enough so will pad it out with a tin of aduki beans for today.
Need to wash lots of bedding and peg it out while the weather is so glorious. School is back today and tomorrow for in-service so a slowish start and then full steam ahead from Monday.
Must also find time to do a final blackberry pick and pick damsons and make damson gin:)
Hope you all have a great day. Good luck to DS2 today Tappers, how did it go for DS1 yesterday?

Morning all - holidays almost over here - so I feel as though I am close to getting my life back !!!! I know that I'll miss them and won't know what to do with my time - but after these holidays it will be nice to have some peace - and, if I'm honest, to be able to go to the toilet without the shout of MUUUUUUUUMM!!!
DS1s head connected with his friends swing yesterday then I noticed his head was red!! At swimming he apparently hit his head in the same spot - so we went to see the Doctor - luckily it was OH so DS1 was relaxed and didn't need stitches! Thought I'd take them on a last day out today before school starts on Monday, so we're off out. Plenty of space to run around. OS wise - chicken casserole for dinner, and leftovers for lunch. Survive the last couple of days of school holidays Mums best of luck xxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all :-)
I have an early shift at work today, but I get to finish at 3.30 so it's not all bad :-)
Everything I had to eat yesterday was home made by me - I was very proud if myself!!
Might not be on here much the next couple of days - my boyfriends band are playing a charity gig for Marie Curie on Saturday, and I'm the driver of the drumkit lol, so there is going to be a lot of sorting out drums and checking they don't need new skins etc.
Off into town after work to pick up cushion pads for Christmas present cushions :-) very pleased I'm almost finished the first one :-)
Hope you all have a great day :-)
Louisa xxxthe only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -

Morning all,
Nice day here again, :T OH and I took little dog up the woods last night quite late, we were hoping to see a badger or a fox, but no luck, it was almost pitch black in the woods by the end of the walk, little dog was chasing rabbits, and came home and flopped out on her bed, quite worn out :rotfl:
DD was out on a sleepover last night, and it was far too quiet here, we did not have the tv on, just sat surfing and reading, it was quite nice but too quiet for me, roll on tonight when she is back
.
DD is back to school tomorrow, so needs to spend some time tonight sorting out her bag etc, all her uniform is washed and ready.
Dinner tonight will be egg bacon and chips, I will have the egg and bacon, and maybe a slice of wholemeal bread, this last bit of weight has to come off.
Sainsbugs delivering tonight, and I need to do a wash.
Celyn, I am also envious of your mushroom skills, we often see them while out walking, but I wont pick them for fear of death
:rotfl:
Have good days all xx
Good luck to the 2nd Taplad xx0
