Is it worth fixing a washing machine or just buy a new one?

I have a Hotpoint 6kg washing machine, 5 yrs old. The drum bearing needs replacing at £89. Is this a waste of money? I fancy buying a new 7.5kg washer to replace it for about £299.
What would you do? I could try the repair myself, but I am not sure how easy it will be....
In both scenarios I don't have the money. But a new appliance interest free over 9 months would make it easy!.

Personally I would go for the new machine youll get at least a years warranty on it for peace of mind. The hotpoint is 5 years old whos to say what will go wrong with it next week and any more repairs will add to the £89 already spent probably taking you up near to the cost of the new model also the newer model will probably be more efficient so youll be making a saving there.0

Hi
Get it repaired - it could go on for a few more years yet. Ours has, had a similar problem. It is now 8 or 9 years old and going strong.0 -
Much depends on how often you use it. Once a day, with a second wash two of three times a week and it's probably worn out. If used only two or three times a week, repair will probably keep it going for another two or three years. I'd say that £89 is a fairly average price for a bearing replacement. If you have it done, bear in mind that it may be noisy for two or three washes, until the bearing is 'run-in'! Leaks are often the bane of a machine in need of replacement."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0

Get it repaired, 5 years isn't very old! Perhaps after another 5 years buy one! What washer is 299 at 7.5kg?0

here is a handy site for all things to do with washing machines.

I was able to replace the brushes on mine because of this0 -
Ive been in the same position before and its hard to decide.
Maybe consider doing the job yourself, i know we replaced the bearings on one of ours in the past and the bearing set back then (probably about 5-6 years ago) cost us around £15 from our local market. Theres a electrical parts man on there who do washer hoovers etc and orders parts in for you. With the internet as it is now maybe you could get them direct and save more. This particular machine only cost us £20 as it was considered as scrap as we got it from one of those places where all goods go that get took from houses when they have new kitchens put in. Luckily for us there was just a loose wire and the machine lasted us over 5 years. £20 very well spent.
A good site also is https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk
When i buy a washing machine now i also buy the extended guarantee ( i know not everyone thinks these are good buys) but direct from domestic and general and the sooner you buy it the cheaper and you can pay by direct debit over 10 months. For me this is peace of mind for the next 5 years, knowing i have no more expense on a washer. Also they cover you for accidental damage too from day 1. I usually take the cover the day i get my washer.0 -
Tesco have a Whirlpool washer for £199, and that's without too much work pursuing a bargain, I would not repair our 5 year old machine.0

5 years old for a washing machine its it life.
Personally i would just bin it, somthing else might go wrong with it after repair.
Argos have a Washing machine at the moment for £1990 -
What about checking with friends/family who have had similar problems (and live near you)? We got in touch with chap who MIL used. He was great & told us that if it was going to be expensive to repair, he would suggest buying new on the phone, he didn't charge a call out fee. Repair wasn't fixed first time, so he came back and fitted something else, and didn't charge for his time, just the part. Much cheaper than a new washing machine.0
