  • I too have ear issues. Mine stick out so I look like a trophy...nice.... but as a girl, I've always worn my hair long to hide them. This is a much cheaper option if you could do the same although if you're male I can see why this might be more difficult.
Debt at LBM (March 2006): £30,000

a hat would certainly be cheaper. have you tried zopa.com? that's where ordinary members of the public bid to lend money to you at various interest rates and you can accept the best offer.

seriously, don't go for a 53 percent interest loan. you might hate your ears but being landed with debt like that at your age is even more unattractive.

    good luck!

Thanks everyone, I think I will go for the hat option and then just deal with my ears when i'm not wearing it.

Thank you for recommending Zopa! The only thing is you have to be 20 to use the market and listings have to be up for at least 5 days but thank you so so much, I am highly appreciative.

  • At the risk of sounding patronising, my ears bothered me a whole lot more at your age than they do now (I'm 34). I have been tempted over the years to have them pinned back but my cousin had the op and hers went wrong and were even worse afterwards. This put me right off!

I've just learnt to be clever with my hairstyling over the years. I even wear my hair up now and again if swimming or going on a spa day. Something I would never have done during my teens and early 20's.

Maybe I should cancel the operation and wear a hat through uni.

I think that's the right thing.
Realistically, you need to get self image and an understanding of who YOU are. You can be as perfect on the outside but on the inside, if you're messed up you always will be :(

  • OP, I hope I didn't come across as harsh, but as others have said, you need to love yourself for who you are. I would as a debtadvisor and see SO many people who have taken out high interest loans like this and ended up in horrendous trouble financially. They are very very rarely the answer and I would never recommend them at all. I also stand by what I said previously that it might be a good idea to invest in some counselling to deal with your self esteem and body issues. You may even get this through the NHS.

Oh and for the record, I'm pretty majorly flat chested, and have previously considered surgery (I'm 25 now). But in the end the financial trauma and heartache it would've caused was always going to be worse than dealing with taunting and comments from shallow minded individuals, who at the end of the day, we're worth worrying about as they probably have massive issues of their own but distract themselves from it by attacking others.

I'm now of the mind that you have to love yourself, warts and all. So long as you love yourself for what you are on the outside, then the you that is on the inside will be much happier, settled, and will have a much better state of mental wellbeing.

What if you'd had the surgery but it'd not turned out how you hoped? Or there were complications?

    Hi Tombo,

seems I might be a little on the late side but if there is a need you could always try a credit trust?

I'm guessing since you are going to the nuffield you are in Sussex somewhere?
