I'm wondering if this is something that should have been corrected when you were younger. My DH had an operation when he was young as his ears stuck out, just wondering why yours wasnt done earlier or would the NHS not do this kind of op now?

Yeah, I think it should have been corrected when I was younger but it is too late for that now :(

The NHS will only do the operation on under 16s apart from in extreme circumstances and then there would be an enormous waiting list.

on Friday I iwll ask him to be my guarantor for First Medical Loans because I think that is what they asked for.

Don't do that for goodness sake.

If your dad is suitable to be a guarantor, he will get a much better rate if he simply takes out a loan in his own name.

There is no difference to him as he will be liable for the debt anyway.

You set up a standing order directly into your dads account for a the money to arrive a week BEFORE the loan payment is due.

If he acts as guarantor, you will end up paying MUCH more interest.

Thank you so much for your help! I'm not sure my dad would do it though as he is very anti-debt. I could ask my brother as a last resort though as he has had loan before. thank you once again (:

If you do approach your father, please make sure he fully understands what being a guarantor is (if he doesn't already know).

The debt is as much the guarantors as it is your own, in many cases, the guarantor ends up carrying the can.

Borrowing from Family has it's pitfalls in any case, we have a dedicated stickied thread for that scenario alone

why are people helping this person? If the case is genuine (perhaps it is a wind-up) a person has booked cosmetic surgery, thay can not pay for, and 5 days before the procedure asks the MSE forum to provide access to £1600. Why tell us it's for surgery? Why not say I need an urgent loan? Something is very wrong here (if genuine). Self esteem, body image , relationships, private non-NHS medical bills. Not what forums are for I fear.

I think people deserve an answer to their question, even if its not the wisest course of action.

Dear 18 year old seeking surgery. This is so wierd because about this time last year someone then aged 17 from memory (who was also really in to competitions -like you) kept posting under different names asking EXACTLY the same question, ie how do I get a loan for an operation, the amount varied from post to post.
I think they ended up asking about taking out a loan in their sisters name (not brother like you).
I think it might be really helpful to you (and everyone else) if we could find this thread from early September last year.

They posted as Tom, Liam and Cosmoo but MSE removed many of the posts (as the same person had multiple log-ins I guess).

it would be better for your father to lend you the money directly (even if he has to get the loan himself) than to be a guarantor for you... the risk is the same for him and he will probably get a better APR
