Well a new page so a bump from me WHILE WE ARE STILL ALLOWED TO and the good old Troll message

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

    What is a Troll?
A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made. If you should get such a comment made on any thread you post, asking for help and advice, please realise this comment is not directed at you personally so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal because the majority of us really are a lovely bunch – ooops, modesty!

What should I do if I get a comment made on my thread?
Firstly do not respond to the comment as this is invariably what the troll wants. So to get rid of the offending post, at the bottom of the post towards the right hand side you’ll see a red "Warning" triangle within a blue “Abuse” icon, as shown below:

    report.gif

Click the icon and then "send" the message which will inform the abuse team of the post, who will then review its content and deal with it as appropriate; sometimes even deleting the troll by making their status PPR’d (Posting Privileges Removed). Remember, this site is an asset to so many people, especially those that feels like their world is falling in around them. There is a wealth of knowledgeable people here all willing to help, whatever you do, do not let the comments of one silly individual deter you from availing yourself of the knowledge base that is on offer here.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE FORUM

It is testament to the work that Martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time, knowledge and experience freely to others; without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of their debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT

  • Hi, I take your points on board, that's why I left it open a bit longer, to see if there were any particular reasons we hadn't thought of why they should stay.

If you think back to before these anti-troll threads started can anyone honestly say the amount of trolling on here or DFW has got better since they were started, or has it got worse?

As I said, it's a trial. We can always start them up again if we need to at any time.

    Andrea :)

I very rearly see any trolling, maybe/hopefully thanks to this thread and the dedication of the users who keep in near the top.

I also notice that newbie will start bumping the thread also, so they obviously found it useful.

I spend more time here during the day than at night, so not sure if things change at night, but from what i am aware of and the reason for the MSE invovlement is that feelings have been hurt, more that troll attacks have been taking place.
I'm no expert, but i'll give you my opinion, my support and my experience. Its all i have.

The thing is with the two threads running (DFW and BR) we can post on either for help with abuse (sending links) and as I mentioned with spam too.

I think so much better since the threads started as I said above we can alert others quicker re abuse or spam. Especially late at night and weekends.

The way things are going, ghost and town springs to mind
Shame really, that one person spreading unfounded accusations can cause so much unrest, I think it may be time for a change of scenery if things don`t change for the better :o

Agreed, I'm on here most often at night when fewer of the regulars tend to be around. The two NTN threads are great for getting help with spammers and abuse.

Also, newbies tend to post on here if they're not sure what to do, they see the thread moving regularly and friendly sounding people posting and pluck up the courage to ask a question..

    Just my thoughts.

I am lost for words............. when I found this site it was like I had stumbbled on my comfort blanket from childhood we need to try and remember that newbies are at the start of the journey through what is without a doubt the hardest and most stressful time ever and that we are in danger of making people feel they can't post. when I was a child I was told sticks and stones can break your bones but names will never hurt you. If we have a Troll on the site we dhould take our own advice and ignore it. I am really sorry that members are leaving the forum as I for one can only say thank you to all who helped me through a very hard time, without you I would never have coped. I think MSE are only trying to pour cold water on the fire and try to get the board back on track.xx
If you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j
