How about a slightly changed new message, something along the lines ofWelcome to the bankruptcy board. This board is here specifically to help people considering bankruptcy, we know you will have questions and probably be scared about the situation you are in but please don't be put off from posting. Many of the posters on here have been through bankruptcy and will be able to help and advise and also to offer you support.
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll?
A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made. If you should get such a comment made on any thread you post, asking for help and advice, please realise this comment is not directed at you personally so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal because the majority of us really are a lovely bunch – ooops, modesty!
What should I do if I get a comment made on my thread?
Firstly do not respond to the comment as this is invariably what the troll wants. So to get rid of the offending post, at the bottom of the post towards the right hand side you’ll see a red "Warning" triangle within a blue “Abuse” icon, as shown below:
Click the icon and then "send" the message which will inform the abuse team of the post, who will then review its content and deal with it as appropriate; sometimes even deleting the troll by making their status PPR’d (Posting Privileges Removed). Remember, this site is an asset to so many people, especially those that feels like their world is falling in around them. There is a wealth of knowledgeable people here all willing to help, whatever you do, do not let the comments of one silly individual deter you from availing yourself of the knowledge base that is on offer here.PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE FORUM
It is testament to the work that Martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time, knowledge and experience freely to others; without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of their debt crisis

This is all well and good, but MSE needs some sort of system where troublemakers are rooted out and booted off the forum. Other Forums can do it so why can`t MSE? It is not rocket science to see who the real troublemaker/s is/are. You are going to lose a lot of good peeps from here who have helped a lot of genuine people.
Well said Dojo.
Funny how the thread has ben going along swimmingly with no bother until now...... but there you go....The worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw

Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used as an ad hominem strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking its proponent.
Often, calling someone a troll makes assumptions about a writer's motives. Regardless of the circumstances, controversial posts may attract a particularly strong response from those unfamiliar with the robust dialogue found in some online, rather than physical, communities. Experienced participants in online forums know that the most effective way to discourage a troll is usually to ignore him or her, because responding tends to encourage trolls to continue disruptive posts — hence the often-seen warning: "Please do not feed the trolls".

I think it says it all, really....
I agree with Andrea....the emphasis should be on welcoming new members, not on using the T**** word to defame and brow beat genuine members who just don't happen to agree with you or who criticise your behaviour !0 -

Very good Tixy I think with the name change and your re-worded message it could be a good compromise
What do you think Andrea?
Also what happens if someone does mention a Troll or post a troll warning bump? will it get removed? will the poster get a warning? I just don't personally think you can stop people posting things like that. Lots of things to consider........ on a thread as I have said that has been running smoothly up until the past week or soThe worst cliques are those which consist of one man ~ George Bernard Shaw

Can I just clarify I didn't mean a stop to the newbies thread, just one that mentions trolls in the title - I really do feel that is possibly like a red flag to a bull for the trolls and possibly worrying newbies more than necessary.
Having a "welcome all newbies and lurkers" thread is great. What do you think? Would someone like to start one?
I think this is a good idea, maybe we can all just put this behind us shake hands and move on. If I had logged on here first the first time I would not have felt like posting in fear of upsetting somebody. Can we all except that we are all different and that at times we are not all going to see eye to eye. Forget the people who want to upset and cause trouble, ignore harsh comments and lets try and help each other rebuild our lives and look forward to a happy life ahead, yesterday is gone guy's and tomorrow is promised to none, 99.9% of us have been to hell and back so please lets all stop the fighting as I do not know your story and you do not know mine, if we have time please remember NONE of us know who we are talking to. Lets all have the best day ever, we are just wasting energy which could be put to better use. its hard to say sorry but it is only 5 letters strung together to make a word xxIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -
Sorry to interupt the politics - but spammer here if people could click....

I also think Tixy's wording and a new title might be the way forward for this thread. It would be a shame to lose it as it is useful for newbies coming along and having a look around.

Personally I don`t think the thread or title is the problem. Whilst we have people who are hellbent on trying to cause trouble and being allowed to get away with it, this problem will not go away. To be constantly accused of doing something that is NOT happening is a travesty, and if MSE think that changing the name of a thread is the answer then god help us all. We have already lost some very valuable members from the forum, and all because of one person who for whatever reason keeps stirring up trouble, I am not prepared to let this rest, as I know we have not done any bullying or haranguing of any sort to anyone, I for one would not tolerate this kind of behaviour as I totally abhor it.:pB&SC No. 298
