  • I freeze them and then add the to the tops of things going into the oven - you dont need to defrost them either before using.
I use them in burgers, meatballs and into anything with mince to bulk it out.

    Ax
  • I freeze them as well until i need them for a salad or maybe sprinkle them on top of dinner plates.

i wouldnt. If you were using them to make stuffing for example, you dont use toasted breadcrumbs.

  • I feel really silly that i need to ask this but ......

I am making breadcrumbs to coat some chicken and i have blitzed the bread in the food processor but the bread is soft.

Do i need to dry it out somehow before i coat my chicken?

Will it freeze if i don't use it up (i got caried away)?

The breadcrumbs you see on all the cookery programmes always seems dry and crispy.

If you are frying the chicken then the crumbs will crisp up a treat. If you are baking it without any fat then it might be best to dry the crumbs on a baking tray in a low oven until crisp.

    Yes, you can freeze them.

Usually I dry/toast the bread in a low oven before I blitz them

No idea why it is called this, but my mil makes it and it works!

Dry out old bread in oven and make breadcrumbs with it.
In a bowl put 1/2 glass of sugar, zest of a lemon, and maybe 3 tsp baking powder.
Mix together 3 eggs and a glass of oil, add into bowl with the breadcrumbs. Mix it all together. remove about a cupful and mix with a dsp cocoa powder (optional).
Put in large tin (I use one that is about 10" across and 1" deep). Put cocoa mixture over the top if using. Bake at Gas 5/ 200 for about 15 mins.
Make syrup with water, sugar and lemon to drizzle over top once cooked. I would make around a cupful of syrup as it is lovely when it soaks in.

Sorry there are no definite measures.... my mil just uses what she has.

I hope someone can either point me in the right direction, or give me some recipes!

I have been keeping the crusts off my bread and had a marathon breadcrumbing session the other night. I now have a Celebrations tub full (in the freezer and adding more crusts daily to my pile in the bottom of the freezer!!, but dont know what to do with them. I made some chicken nuggets, but I have enough to make about a 1000!!!

Can anyone give me any ideas with what to do with my breadcrumb mountain?

    Thanks!
Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!
