Fantastic! Years ago, before the drop in my income, I did a distance learning astronomy course, and at the end of it there was an optional residential weekend - we got to play with an 11" telescope with a hydrogen filter on to look at sunspots, I developed my own picture of the moon, I classified galaxies, all sorts of things. Go you!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Well........money is rubbish, but it's sunny

I'm also working from home with the aim of tidying up the flipping house, it's a tip (again, lol) actually not as bad as it could be, but I've got a friend babysitting tonight, so I've decided to do 15 minute bursts, interspersed with 15 minutes of lounging........right, back to it!!0 -
Darn it, have done 30 minutes on the s&dding kitchen and it's still a mess! Another 1 or 2 and it'll be showroom stylee0

I'm not doing anything thrilling, PTA meeting, first of the year so am showing willing
The kitchen is 95% done, just needs a sweep/hoover, but I've just got back in with bags of shopping so DD wasn't overly impressed with it. *sigh* she's a hard taskmaster that girl of mine!! 0 -
*sigh* it's been a funny old weekend.....great in that DD and I were visited by a lovely girl chum and have made plans to go and have a sleepover at her place next month, we went to a few free events in our neighbourhood, DD had a party, we went for scrummy vegan lunch in Brighton and played in a park, I have had far too much wine over Friday and Saturday night.....
odd in that I would have been celebrating my wedding anniversary had things not turned out so badly all those years ago! I didn't even make it to the first one before he burgered off and left us, and my life has almost certainly been far richer and fulfilled in many ways as once the pain cloud lifted, I realised that he'd done DD and I a favour by not polluting our atmosphere.......but sometimes it still just hurts so much that I went into the marriage thinking that it was for life and that we were going to have a great time as partners and parents. It was not to be.
In happier news, I've just hopefully finished off my first proper homework for my science course, writing up our experiment from last week's class. I thought it would be "easy" but realised that unlike my waffly literature degree where I could use lots of nice flowery words and hoodwink the lecturers into thinking I was amazingly fabulous, for science you have to be conscise, accurate, and measurable!
I hope I've done okay, but am really worried I've got the wrong end of the stick and it's not set out right. My textbook hasn't arrived yet, so I've been reading a different one I bought a couple of years ago when I attempted to be "brave" and open it/do a correspondence course, and have also been reading up on t'internet.
However, we haven't been given any examples of how to do it, so I'm hoping that my online research into other people's experiment write-ups is going to look good! Time will tell....
DD and I have also squeezed some clothes shopping for her into the weekend as my lovely mummy put some money into my bank account for me to buy her some winter clothes:) We popped to the shop that was having it's 2-day summer sale, and I saw a gorgeous dress/top combo that was not going to be staying on the shelf, even if it had been too big for her!! Luckily it was an age 7 which fits her beautifully length-wise, and is only slightly too wide. Result

She also fell in love with a gorgeous pair of brown victorian-style boots that make her look grown-up in a good way (i.e. no heels, I hate to see young children in heels!!) and some tops and a skirt. All in all, it was probably the first time she's ever had real input in her clothes, and once I stopped her picking up cute baby outfits to buy as presents for the neighbour's baby, she got quite into it.
Hopefully I can use a small amount of the money to buy myself a pair of jeans too
I've been reading the challenges on MemoryGirl's blog and am glad that tonight the TV has and will stay off, I'm using my time consciously, studying and getting ready for the busy week ahead.....Long may that continue!
P.S. I also can't wait for payday this week........0 -
Kittikins, I'm sorry the echo of the anniversary was so tough for you. Even tho you know you're better off on your own, it still hurts.... I hope you feel okay today.
What a lovely shopping trip you had tho! And writing your experiment up, all sounds really good. And using time consciously - oh my word, thats a great phrase. I think I've done a lot more since I've been here partly because I can't get any tv signal without a freeview box, and until I meet up with gilligansyle in Liverpool, I'm not going to be getting one ... I have DVDs I watch, but thats it - it certainly make me use my time better
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'm back in the land of the living today, albeit quite tired as a certain little cherub found her way into my bed at some stage in the night so I woke up whilst she was squeezing me off my king-sized bed, but I got up nice and early, showered, sorted out our lunches and bags for the day, did some washing and finally tackled Mount Ironingberg. Result!
I also checked my bank accounts and will need to take some pennies out of the savings pot to ensure the credit cards are paid off. However, it's going to be less than dreaded, so that's a relief
