Right, feeling super motivated today! want to get the house tidy and start attacking the garden ready to plant lots of lovely fruit and veg next year.
OH has gone to the yard and said 'make sure the garden is clear of dog poo' and he's bring something back with him...i want to know what it is!!
I think we'll do a curry tonight, got to get the chicken out, and going to try a lentil dhal with it too, just need to find a recipe.
OH wants lamb or pork for dinner tomorrow, apart from belly what cheap cuts are good?Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

curryqueen has a good recipe here, it is very popular and they say it is as good as the ones you get at the Indian restaurants.

the christmas plan currently under test by weezl et al uses this pork joint from asda
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/asda-compare-prices/Fresh_Meat/ASDA_Boneless_Pork_Leg_Roast_by_Weight_100g.html
a 1.5 kg joint would cost £4.35. When I tested the christmas meal, a joint this size, slow roasted in the oven, fed 4 people for a test christmas lunch, the OH and I had 4 more meals out of it (8 portions), so very cost effective
if your DH loves meat for dinner often, can you do meat pies? The chicken and sweetcorn one I have been doing (adapted from the £100 a month plan) with mash, carrots and peas costs 38p each
I love pies and do the chicken and sweetcorn one or a chicken and mushroom one often. I experimented with a tin of corned beef and found that a third of a tin with mushrooms made a 4 person, 20cm pie, that was very meaty0 -

thanks for that!! Wow that pork would last us forever! Especially as i'm trying to cut down on the meat i eat and bulk my plate up with more veggies. Going to do to sainsburys later to see what they've got, Asda is miles from me and i can't really afford the petrol to get there!
I've been thinking about pies recently! I've only ever made a steak and ale one, but it was success so will give it another whirl!
Annoyingly i forgot to put my chicken drumsticks in the freezer and they've gone off, so thats a meal wasted!!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Can't remember if you've got a slow cooker or not. But today I'm making slow-cooker pulled pork and having with BBQ sauce, corn on the cobs and coleslaw. For that I used a cheap shoulder of pork joint.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

thanks guys, going to purchase some pork today!
- quick question, how do you know if curry paste is off or not? I have a unopened balti paste and half a jalfrazi paste, but it's been open a while and i don't know if i should just chuck it or use it?
I don't know what to do with the balti paste! I guess onion, garlic, tomatoes? no idea!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

chuck the open one, it will probably be off.
Yes, with the unopened one, anything that you want in a curry, onions, tomatoes, garlic, garam masal, chillies, etc.0 -
the jar says it's good for six months, but i know we've not used it since we moved here and thats rolling on 6 months, so it's going in the bin!
lets think... fry off some onions and garlic and chicken, add the paste, add some chopped toms, bit of water? some homegrown chillis, i think i'll skip garam masala, it gives me a headache! but maybe some thing else. let it all simmer down.
oh and the lentil dhal do i cook the lentils first? or while im making the dhal?
atleast i know how to make rice!!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

If it's not got fur growing on it, I'd use it. Most of those things are so packed with spices which act as preservatives and will keep going almost indefinitely.0
