Just made sausage rolls...they look..interesting. we will do a taste test once they're finished in the oven! I think that might be it from me today, what a waste of a sunday!! OH is having sausage and bacon sarnies tomorrow with the left overs from his fry up this morning.

I think i might do a bagel for tomorrow's lunch.

  • How are you feeling now Bramble? ;)

It's funny how things work - I may need my stores more than ever at the moment. Just had an online bill from my mobile provider for £103 _pale_

It appears that the free weekend calls I had been receiving as part of a 'stay with us' package have suddenly disappeared. So, whilst I have been returning weekend calls for the last 3 weeks I now find myself with a bill of £100+ (normally £20 max per month). Called provider who were quite vague and said they would look into it and get back to me as the weekend calls were a 'discretionary bolt on'. I'm going to hunt my contract (9 of 18 months gone) out later and will definitely check the small print!
Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!

    Feeling much better now thanks!!
Meal planning has gone to pot! We ended up using an old jar of chicken tonight on sunday, had them with boiled potatoes, yesterday had the kababs and then today OH isn't hungry to so i had some wedges and fishcakes from the freezer.
    Lasagne tomorrow i think.

Ouch £103!! hopefully you get it sorted soon! I think i may have been caught speeding this evening :( went to tescos and got 2 tins of WW soup for 20p each, 6 packs of wrigleys gum for 40p and some other bits and bobs, then may have been going a little fast down the road and there was a police car in the lay by facing the cars...boo.

OH is putting another invoice in with his employer tomorrow, he's owed about 1500miles and a good 40 hours which will be nice. Our cupboards are so stocked right now that we're going to run it down and restock again in about 3 weeks.

How did your sausage rolls turn out?

I have been building up my stock cupboard. bought the red lion bacon for £1.50, half price and bogof! Bought 8 packets and have put them in the freezer. Hopefully they will see us through December, as DH won't be working and we will have no money coming in.

i think they turned out well. OH has been making his way through them!!
we have run out of freezer space! so can't make any purchases for a while. I think we've enough meat to see us through 2 and a half weeks worth of meals, not to mention soups etc.

Macro currently have the dog food we use for £5.50 for 17kgs so realllly want to go down and get 2 bags of that which will see pups through to the next year. Hopefully i can get OH's mum to pick some up

So, Bramble, what are you going to do with all your bargains???? :D

Mineallmine, hope you don't mind me adding, but I make my crumble in parts of 2:1:1. Crumble for 2 people 2oz flour, 1oz sugar, 1oz butter/marg. Always seems to come out well. Brown sugar is nice as it goes a bit caramelly! I just multiply it using those ratios depending on serving size.

I often sprinkle a tbs demerara on top of a crumble for the 4 of us gives a nice crunchy topping
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

got home today to some angry letters...... £50 to feed two adults will be going into it's second month in full swing! Again, we've got £50 to spend on food, but this time atleast we've fully stock fridges and cupboards.

I reckon we have enough food for easy 2 week meals, then i need to start using my noggin and use things like lentils which i can tell are a good store cupboard food to have, but i don't know what to do with them!

on a side note, the sky has turned yellow and weare having the most amazing storm!!

Good luck with your second month with a £50 food budget. I've followed your thread with interest and think you've done so well. LENTILS - the obvious one - lentil soup. How about lentil dhal? Chop and gently fry an onion and a clove of garlic, add a cup of lentils, add some stock and curry powder. Simmer until the lentils are soft then add a handful of frozen spinach. Or you can add any other vegetables you have to bulk it out. I'm sure lots of other suggestions will come your way soon too.
