OH has just bought home 30 eggs, a handfull of rhubarb, about 8 apples, 2 bunches of grapes, blueberries, cucumber and some tomatoes!!

it feels like christmas, i'd like to make a dessert with the rhubarb and apples, but i'm all cooked out today, dinner is in the oven and i can't wait to eat and chill for the evening!

Dessert tonight - we've got some merangue (SP) nests and some coffee flavoured ice cream so was gonig to dollop some icecream in the middle of the merangue and job done! Not a culinary feat, but, something to keep the sweet tooth at bay for this evening!

Very much so! just gave the dog the 'gooey' bits (skin etc) from the chicken when i was stripping the meat off the carcass and got promptly told off ' I thought we were making this chicken go further, stop giving it to the dog!!' - i have a thing about food textures and would not have been able to use them no matter how i disguised them!

He just ate 5 boodles, and informed me i am allowed to bake them again! so they were an all round success! I think i may have to make another batch before the week is out!

tucking into scrambled egg on toast for breakfast today! i do have porridge, but i thought it would be nice to cook something before i go to work, and eggs are the one thing i never had to worry about running out of! so going to eat more of them.

Got to get some onions today for cooking, and some bread, will wait till after 1pm when the supermarkets reduce their breads, waitrose do a really tasty basic loaf, it's 50p and tastes just as good as the branded breads, it's soft and lovely, just thin slices which is no bad thing at all!!

Baked bean bake is cheap and v filling.

Layer thinly sliced potatoes, onion, baked beans and cheese along with salt and pepper... finish with a layer of just cheese, or cheese and HM breadcrumbs S&P for a scrummy easy cheap dinner :)

I love it, the teens love it and the littlies love it too :D A real winner and cheap as chips :)

(so it doesn't go to dry, i add about half a mug of water or stock to the mix)

cook for 45ish mins at 200, covered until the last 10 mins

Loving watching this thread and all the great ideas! I've got this all prepared and ready to stick in the oven just before OH gets home :j Sounds soooo good, next time I might layer in some vegetarian sausages too.

Speaking of sausages, OH isn't veggie and when we were at CostCo we bought 18 caramelised onion sausages for 97p. I cooked him three and froze the rest. I don't cook meat for him very often but have 15 sausages left and we will be moving house in about 6 weeks (fingers crossed) so I'd really like to use them up.

Does anyone have loads of cheap sausage recipes? I'd really appreciate them, along with idiots instructions...I'm very new to this housewife and OS thing!:o

    Thanks!

The risotto was laaavely! I made 4 portions, OH will probably eat 2 for dinner and i can have the rest for lunch tomorrow.

and....we have a cheque!!! his employer and OH's banks are the same, will this speed up the clearing time?

After we've paid bills we won't have much left over, BUT we will have enough to do a food shop at least! and he is still owed about 3 days work and over 1000 miles worth of mileage so we've got more to come (plus my pay)

I feel so relived! This week is going to be the toughest, as we are down to making do with whats in the cupboards, but we actually made it! (okayyy not till the 27th, but we still made the little money we had stretch pretty far!!)

I'm going to see what we can do next month!

Congratulations Bramble!!! I've been following your month in admiration, and you have done so amazingly well!! I am so happy for you that you have the cheque now. It must be such a relief. I bet you are so proud of yourself for getting through this!
