  • For changes of circumstances it should be named how long is a piece of string. :D
I've been waiting over 7 weeks now. No money, apart from OH's low income plus uniforms etc it's become very very hard! so anyone waiting I hope your's doesn't take as long as this.:(
  • i'm not sure what's going on with them at the moment I've never had a problem with the Tax Credit office until now.

My last 2 tax credit payments were half of what i normally get and no letter of notification as to why this is.
I get tax credit for childcare costs only as i'm a single parent working full time and i really do need that help to pay the nursery.

I've tried to get through too but it just says sorry we're really busy ring back another time!

    Really frustrating!
  • Evenstar - try this number - 01355 359007 - this number is supposed to be for overseas callers but a lot of people on this board have rung this number to sort out their tax credits and the advisor hasnt made any reference to them not being allowed to use the number.

In saying that.....there have been a few people who have been "told off" by the advisor and told not to use the number again but give it a try . If you are desperate to get through then its worth a shot , you may just get an advisor who doesnt say anything to you .
  • seems alot of people are having problems including me

mine did not go in to day absolutly nothing has changed i got my renewal in on time and informed them that my dd was staying in full time education i really needed these as my lha has also been messed up and i didnt recieve any last week by the time i got home from work they had shut so will now have to wait untill monday or does any one know if they are open tomorro?
  • The tax credit line is open today so give them a call today !

It would appear that you are in the same boat as the rest of us ? Your child has just left school ?

The tax credit award for ALL school leavers ends on 31st August....this applies even if you have notified them that your child intends to remain in education or training.

Your entitlement then begins again from 1st September .

For a lot of posters this has caused disruption to their weekly payments.

According to some posters , they have telephoned the tc office and spoke to advisors who have told them that the situation will be resolved and payments will return to normal within 5 working days....

    Hopefully this information is accurate.

I know that most of us know this isnt the fault of the advisors on the tc helpline but it's frustrating when it happens and your payments are affected because we were not aware that our payments would be less this week! Most of us thought that once we had notified the tx office that our child would remain in education our payments would simply cary on...appears this is not the case.

As long as you are sure that you have notified them about your son staying on at school then your claim should return to normal soon.

If you are unable to get through on the normal 0845 line but you are desperate just to check then try either of these two numbers but please note before you do that they are numbers for oversears callers and so you may get told by the advisor to call back using the regular helpline number. It seems some people use the numbers successfully whilst some get an advisor who is more of a stickler for the rules lol.

Those numbers for you to try : 0845 300 3600

    0135 5359007

    Good luck.
  • just called them they said there trying to rescheduale my payments an they dont know how long this will take so absolutely no help at all
  • Great post joanne d, very reassuring :-) We are actually very fortunate, because we have just paid all the monthly bills and can use my husband's DLA to manage on for the next couple of weeks. I have no idea what we'd do otherwise. That said, it is a timely reminder that it will stop in another 2 years regardless and we are making sure our plans to pay off our debts by then are still up-to-date!

My circumstances might be different from others as my son has left school but my payments were due to stop at end of Aug but my son registered with Connexions (looking for work) and so I called Child Benefit last week, told them the situation and the man organised my payments to continue for a further 20wks from the last day of compulsary education (25th June).
I asked about family tax credit and he said that he could organise that too for me. A couple more questions and he had that extended till mid Nov, too.

A letter arrived within a couple of days to confirm continuation of CB and then 7 days later for CTC.

This week I checked our bank account (7days after call) and our payment had gone in for CTC, even before we got the confirmation letter.
Sometimes it does go smoothly so its not always the nightmare. :)

  • Thanks for that post Cheerfullness4. It appears that maybe when the tc office quoted to one of the other posters that the payments would all be rectified within 5 days , the statement was accurate.

If you say that you notified cb office (who then also dealt with your tc) and within 7 days your award was rectified then that gives some encouragement .

My next tc payment is due on Thurs so hopefull , fingers crossed it will be sorted by then.
  • I hope it works well for you, joanne and everyone else thats waiting. I know just how worrying it can be for everyone here thats living from hand to mouth and needs it so badly.
