I never want to see a plum again. We have plum cake, plum jam, plum chutney, plum sorbet, stewed plums and straight frozen. I preferred being irresponsible and ignoring them. Even the chickens are refusing to eat them. Roll on apples and pears....

Seeing the other side of step children is hideous but fascinating. Have Greenbee and I chosen the only mature, responsible, educated and reasonable absent fathers? I wonder what my DHs XW says about him? She sent a then 7yo boy on holiday for a week (that I paid for) with one pair of underpants despite her earning more than the average couple at the time, and taking the vast majority of our 'disposable' income! Too right I sent him back with the 7 pairs I had to buy in Fuerteventura unwashed - petty but enjoyable.

    Tuesday~ Kitchen and Dining area
    Level One
    Sweep and mop the floor

    Also to do:
    HHI
    [STRIKE]Piccalilli[/STRIKE]
    Raspberry Vinegar
    Runner Bean Pickle
    [STRIKE]WM X 2[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Banana Loaf[/STRIKE]
    Make chicken stock -SC overnight
    Feed plants

Thank goodness after some serious determination this morning - have only the kitchen floor left to mop

Piccalilli made, surprisingly salty and curry smelling and darker than expected. Still not full of additives of shop bought so not too surprising really. Leaving to mature for at least 8 weeks now :D

While the oven was on I thought I'd get round to using the 2 black bananas that have been on the side all week and the loaf is baking as we speak :D

2 lots of WM - maybe 1 more to take advantage of the dry weather

Off to pick some raspberries in a while and see if I've got enough to make some raspberry vinegar

Then have a look for some more jars for tomato chutney at some point then all chutney making is done for this month :T

Must be the day for making things. I'm going to be baking a low fat carrot cake (to use up some of the rubbery carrots in the fridge) and the plum bread that was on Something for the Weekend this morning using plums from the freezer (fingers crossed this works, as Moon froze them in halves without their stones in, so I'm just going to chop them up as they are and mix them in still frozen).
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Contemplating whether to make greenbee's courgette soup this afternoon, but wondering if it's as good without cream?

I made and ate it without cream and loved it (DS1 didn't, no feedback yet from MIL). I froze some and just had the last fresh portion from the fridge with a bit of creme fraiche stirred in. A nice addition, but not essential (the potato and onion are, though).

My parents have brought lots of plums and tomatoes (and chard, and beans, and apples, and courgettes) with them as they came up for my cousin's wedding yesterday. But as my nephew arrived on Friday :Dnight my mother is staying for a bit to help process them. We're making plum crumbles for the new parents, and veggie lasagne. I might be allowed to keep some.

They can't be the only ones, but it does look like it... he sent his kids back with their clothes washed AND ironed, and collected his ex from the station after her holiday (having removed all the rotting food from the fridge as the kids were too scared to eat anything in there)

Yes. Personally I prefer it that way :D

Anyway, more importantly I'm now an aunty :D I saw my nephew briefly yesterday afternoon and am about to drop my mother off for grandparents' hour. SIL is hoping she'll be home tonight, but the baby isn't feeding yet so they're threatening to keep him in. Given that he's got nasty bruises from the forceps, I'm not surprised he isn't interested in eating - he must have a major headache... but perhaps piggers could send some of Freja's feeding vibes over in this direction for him :p

Hopefully they'll get it sorted out, but if they're still having difficulty I'll be back here to get advice, as I know there are lots of flyladies with experience in this area...

Might be in next week... then again, might be busy admiring my nephew :D

A big hello back to everyone - it's nice to be welcomed back to the [STRIKE]covern[/STRIKE] thread.

Tootles - we ARE going to have a fab year this year...though a lot of the last year has been good as well as yuck. A massive thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone here who supported me when things weren't so good.

I'm going to s/s the house and then I'm going to mow the grass. Weather is sunny here so definitely going to make the most of it.

    See you later xx

Nope Hex and Greenbee aren't the only ones to have reasonable absent fathers...my hubby did everything and thensome for his children, financially, emotionally, practically...only to have the XW be as poisonous as it gets and then some. I've come to the conclusion that some people are just like that, the sooner you can get rid of them out of your life the better. He used to receive 13 page letters of diatribe barking orders and calling me all the names and unpicking every little detail of the events when the children used to visit, from what we ate to clear orders to me of what I had to make her children for their tea!!!!

Sadly the children, now young adults have gone pretty much the same way.

Congratulations, Aunty Greenbee. Hope the little guy starts feeding soon.

BTW, I came across a documentary on sleeping a few days ago. They had a new strategy for beating jetlag which they trialled successfully. Eat the last regular meal before your departure and then don't eat anything else until the first regular meal at your destination. You can sleep as much as you like. Apparently this re-sets your body clock.
