The NAVMAN ICN330 is also at PC World for 99.99 which lets you reserve at store (Currys not letting reserve and collect).

I was seriously tempted as I have a Navman PIN570 PDA/satnav on order from Amazon 129.99 (as posted on seperate thread). However, a quick look around the web and it seems that the ICN330 cannot support the speed camera database - so an extra £30 you get this support and Word, Excel etc, the ability to play MP3 and display digital photos.

At the minute I think I will stick with the NAVMAN PIN 570 - anyone have any good/bad experience the PIN570?

    Thanks

Remembered reading of problems with cars with heated front windscreens. The heating elements in the glass block the signal so the unit cannot get a lock on the sat. I read this on an SME thread.

The spec for this one says internal antenna.

I'm no expert just thought you might want to check the before buying.

I've tried 3 diffrent systems (Medion, Navman, Garmin) in My Alhambra (Galaxy) with heated screen and experienced no problems - I've been told the problem is with coated screens in Peaugeots Citroens etc.

Looks like a good unit. Has a touch screen which makes it better than the Garmin i3 immediately. The software looks to be Navigon 5 / MioMap v2, which I use on my Mio A701 and think it's great. Better than TomTom in some ways, but not as good in others. On balance I like MioMap better than TomTom though.

Wouldnt a 2.7 inch touchscreen be a little small to operate properly unless you have tiny fingers?

Nope. It's designed to be used with fingers. So all the on screen buttons are nice n big so you can push them pretty easily. It's dead easy to use on my 2.7inch screen A701. If you have hands the size of a Domino's extra large pizza you may have difficulties, but for those of us under 7ft 6 it should be fine.

  • I'm not 100% sure but i think the problem does relate to Citreons Peugeot and some Renaults. I believe its the coating for the rain detection for automatic wipers. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also pretty sure it's cured by fitting a small antennae that sticks on and allows the GPS inside the car to find satellites which the coating stops it doing.

I have a ford with a heated windscreen and rain detector and it works fine. but why not spend some extra pennies and get the tom tom one in the £160 thread.

I thought the same but reading the spec it does come with a stylus which should help the sausage fingers amongst us.

Citroens have heat reflective windscreens. This is known to cause a problem with GPS devices. All I did was to position my Garmin on the quarterlight on the drivers side of my Picasso and I get a perfect lock. I've never tried it on the windscreen as for one thing my arms wouldn't be long enough to reach the sat nav if it was positioned there. :o
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Have you used a Garmin i3??? I'd check the facts well before making such bold statements as the i3 is still the best SatNav at this price level.

A touch screen is neither here nor there if you have poor maps, inaccurate routing, unreliable software and inability to install speedcam or POIs database.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
