yes please that would be great

I'm sure Cyril wouldn't mind another reply :0
Nicola00 - Not yet, but I can do some later in the day for you :) I have to be out soon.

Typical that I've just thought of lots more examples of well received frugal gifts but I've already posted the reply to Cyril!

Our pots of Gold are always greatly received, I try and tweak them each year to make them a bit different so this year I'm doing bags of gold just with sweets and scratch card

Last year I spent ages looking for suitable pots then I found cream porcelan plant pots small and large reduced to 45p & 75p, then a bargain gold spray reduced so got 3 tins for price of 1. And now ten months later 3 of the pots are still being used in the gardens/house of the receipitents. And 3 of the scratch cards were winners 2 x £10 and one £5
  • Germaine Greer started the storm about homemade gifts last year

if people were getting macaroni covered pictures i could see the point

i make everyone a christmas hamper,
every year i get orders to make them for other people to give as presents

guess i should stock up on macaroni & glitter:o

youngoldlady I keep going to type young gold lady :)

Congratulations on your forth coming nuptuals

Yeah I know what you mean , they'll look good with the truffles in them. I have 2 matchsticks boxes that was thinking of reusing, just depends how they look once covered. I only want around 12-20 or so of the favour boxes which I can probably pick up from cake / card shops

Wedding favours I remember years ago helping a friend with a few different ones she was doing thinking we'd get them done and out the way in one go the first hour was fine , the second was the sore fingers stage from tying the ribbon and by the fourth we were climing the walls. What have you got planned for yours

Without creating a storm can I just ask whether all your home made efforts are appreciated and wanted. I am just asking because it seems to me that there is more effort made here to save as much money as possible which seems rather out of the spirit of christmas in terms of giving, rather than considering whether the gifts would be liked by the recipient. I know no-one I give to would like / want / appreciate something amateurishly made in the craft stakes. Grandchildren to Grandparent aside.

    Just food for thought.

I only do handmade items for people who will appreciate it ( which in my case is every one i give too :) ).
And, tbh a lot of what I do isn't nessecerily cheaper than buying - just nicer ;)
Even my kids appreciate it - but that's a lot to do with the way we bring them up.

Thank you! :D Not a clue at the moment! We'll hopefully have the money saved to marry a year early in summer 2012 :T We have a venue chosen, but haven't got dresses or colour schemes etc yet. We think it will probably have vintage incorporated into it and OH is very fond of a deep wine red/pillar box red as a one of the colours. We've nearly finished the template for the invitations. I'm not sure about favours - there's so many good ideas for homemade ones! We'll probably do boxes of homemade biscuits and sweetie jars - like I said everyone in the family loves food, the simpler the better :rotfl:

I've taken the photos. How do I add them to a message/post? Thanks x
    Engaged since 25/12/2009

Well I was engaged. Until we separated on 8th March :( Here's hoping that having a break will help us solve all our problems. Until then I'm a single mum on a tight budget :(

I've just read most of this thread while off work poorly, I have to say how AMAZING you ALL are & how inspirational!

I used to craft a bit but all my time is taken up by our allotment now, which is great & I love it but can't find time for everything.
I have Strawberry vodka on the go & courgette chutney from our gluts. I must now try the vodka with wurthers sounds fab.

I have teenage nieces & would love to try som HM soap, scrubs & bathbombs for them all can anyone point me in the way of easy recipies?

On the subject of bottles - A couple of years ago we made fruit vodka. We were on our weekly pub visit when I noticed the small tonic/ginger ale etc. bottles were being thrown away & no longer recycled, I bagged a few & bought some corks. Don't know if this still happens, I'll keep my eyes open next time we go out (different pub now).

Keep up the great work, I will try to keep on top of the thread & do more crafting.

Vintage, very nice. My sister in law to be is getting marry June 2012 and she's uber organised, venue booked , seen some bands, sampled some cakes, shoe and dress shopping now

I'm sure it will all come together for you, I thnk the HM biscuits and jars will go down a treat then

Do you have a photobucket acount to upload your pics?

I'm looking for little favour boxes or small boxes for my daughters homemade chocs. alternative is just the plain cello bags or christmas ones but thought the boxes might look nice for the adults

She's going to do a few xmas shaped ones if i can find the moulds and also some peppermint creams with iced holly decorations on top

any reccomendations on the boxes and any more themed choc/sweets ideas

Last year I made edible gifts for family, friends and colleagues at work. I presented them in different ways from cello bags, to bought and homemade gift boxes. To make my own I bought a set of flat packed gift boxes from poundland laid one out flat and used it as a template with some some gold card. However, I did Google box templates and found some free ones there too.

    Some pics of my gifts

This year I have made jams, chutneys, mini Christmas cakes (they were very popular last year) and will be making Christmas tree cookies using a fab cookie cutter set I bought from Lakeland earlier this year. I also managed to pick up some Christmas cello bags from there in the sale in January.

In answer to Cyril, I have to admit to being wary of giving handmade gifts in the past. Last year was my first attempt however, the responses I got from recipients was all very positive. They really appreciated the thought, time and effort that had gone into their gifts - they were so much more personal than a gift set from a department store. Hence more homemade gifts this year.
