Hi and welcome wilf55,
Your post and joining will be seen more clearly by MrsMcCawber, the angel who updates our list, :T if you turn the "£100 per week" into large red font.
QUICK QUERY ANYONE, we've run out of strong white flour but have a fair bit of wholemeal. However, the wholemeal flour calls for a Vitamin C tablet (?) and sunflower oil. We only have olive oil and no Vit C. Would it still work if I leave the one out and use an alternative oil please?
Thanks in advance,

What calls for the vit C tablet?
If I see a recipe that includes some random ingredient that I haven't got and can't be doing with getting, I find a different recipe without it0 -
Have you got any ordinary plain white flour? I've made perfectly yummy loaves out of that (Tesco value, 42p per bag) before now.
My husband makes wholemeal bread out of home-ground wheat - couldn't be much denser - and he NEVER uses a vitamin C tablet. It helps it to rise, so you will probably get a denser loaf. Maybe not so great for sandwiches! He also always uses butter instead of oil - just uses the same weight. I'm sure you could use olive oil - it would give it a nice flavour!0 -
Thanks CupofChai and ChocClare, :T
In OH's words, that sorts that then!
Cheers,

Hello Grocery Challengers,
I wondered if this might be helpful to any of you?
http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/planner-christmasweek.html
It's a planner for a family of four to cover a week's worth of food for £25 pounds - all the ingredients are included, and there is no waste! :j
It's a new planner for Weezl's website that's linked on the first page of the GC and it's meant to be for Christmas, but before that Weezl was really hoping for some help from the experienced cooks to test out the whole week's worth of food and help iron out any quirks on methods etc, and there is no one better at that than the Old Stylers
The testers would ideally be a family of four willing to eat all the meals as published, so it's clear whether quantities etc. are okay, but obviously anyone who can do any testing, no matter what their family situation is more then welcome. And as GC thread is a very busy one, and needs to be kept on topic so people don't struggle keeping up with it, anyone who'd like to help with this is very welcome to pop over to the "How Much You've Saved" forum and discuss this further in this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2640225
The recipes and methods can not undergo any big changes at this stage, so please bear in mind that the testing is purely to see if the methods are clear enough and the food good enough.
Sorry if this wasn't the right place to post this, but as I will be trying out the "Christmas Day" menu on 31st of October along with a few other testers, and as I have already saved lots following Weezl's website recipes, I just thought that all the GCers trying to save money on their food shopping could benefit from this and also help Weezl at the same timexxxx

I spent £8 odd today in Farm Foods on milk, toilet rolls, chocolate cakes & biscuits and hot chocolate, another £2.50 in Iceland on bread and £20 something in Sainsburys on cereal, bananas, biscuits, creme fraiche, cream, After Eights (for the December event!) and cant remember what else to be honest. I also cant find the Sainsburys receipt at the moment.
I'm feeling a bit fed up again tbh at our lack of money & also that there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get all the jobs done. I only work part time so goodness knows how I would cope time wise if I worked fulltime, which I am thinking about. There certainly wouldn't be time to go round different shops for different bargains, but who knows - maybe the fact that I would only have time to go to one place or have 1 on-line shop delivered would actually save money in its own way.
I noticed today when I got a mini bank statement from the cash point that my child tax payment this month is only half what it normally is. I've had no letter explaining why this has happened which tbh doesn't surprise me as I have had this happen before where the letter telling you about a change comes days after the change itself! Has anybody else had their child tax payments cut? I was wondering whether it was something to do with the new government?Grocery aim £450pm.Spent £519 August, £584 July, £544 June, £541 May, £549 April, £517 March, £517 Feb,£555 Jan, £573 Dec, £465Nov, £561Oct, £493Sept, £426Aug,£496 Jul, £528Jun, £506May,£498April, £558 March, £500Feb, £500 Jan, £490 Dec, £555 Nov,£566 Oct, £505Sept, £450Aug, £410 July, £437 June, £491 May, £471 April, £440 March, £552Feb, £462Jan0 -
Thanks carolinerunner and loulou, I will be brave and ask at our local Mr M ( or I could send in DH instead;)). I will definitely check out S**burys for cheap frozen fish. At least the cat eats it all not like the overpriced vet food!
