Morning All - yesterday was another NSD for me :D but today I will have to nip out for a couple of bits. Need to get some more toilet roll £1.30 ish (the cheap 4rolls for 69p stuff i bought last time really really isnt agreeing with me) and I'd quite like to get another 3 packs of wipes (£2.49) while the buy one get 2 free offer is on - think it ends today. Also need to get the local paper (75p ) and I think thats about all................

    Have a good day folks

I know this isnt grocery challenge but if anyone needs to update child benefit as well as tax credits...if you ring child benefit first they can update tax credits for you....they are so much easier to get through too (they did this for me last week as I had been trying to get through to tax credits for 2 days)

I was sorting out benefits for 2 children leaving school and attending college full time.......hope this helps someone xx
Feeding 6 Adults 1 Teen a 8 year old with hollow legs and a very fussy 5 year old. Also 3 cats and 3 fishies

    morning all
just spent £35 in Mr T but had £10 off voucher so it was only £25. Bargain. bought some beer and cider for a little treat for me and my other half.
Still though I used to spend at least £70 on every supermarket shop. So to only spend £35 inc alcohol is such a step forward for me.

  • I spent another €3 on Tuesday evening - I had to get creme fraiche (or sour cream - CF was cheaper) for with the chorizo bake (it;s a bit spicy so this cools it nicely), and I got a 6 pack of teddy crisps for DD to have one on the way home (I literally was just at creche closing time, so an hour later than normal) and the rest for my car for other emergencies.

We were bold last night - DH was on collection duty and I was home late, and neither of us were in the mood for cooking (DH wasn't even in the mood for turning on the oven for oven chips and chicken wings) so I got burger and chips and onion rings from chippie on my way home. But that comes from entertainment budget - and we rarely have a chippie anymore so it was TASTY!! I will do the oven version and wings tonight (I need to make freezer space for the plums I got from my aunt's neighbour, I have used loads but I can't use all so freezing for jam or tarte tatin later).

Nat21luv its not easy when when going back to work can leave you in a worse financial situation than staying at home as well as having less quality time with your family. I was in that position 4 years ago I decided to stay at home. The grocery challenge is really good at changing your attitude to spending and over time you can become quite adept at cutting costs. I also do mystery shopping, dining, calls and emails.I'm on the shop and scan and food on the go panels which pays for Xmas and/or a large furniture purchase. Best advice is never think a small saving of a few pence isnt worth it, think how much it would add up to over a year.

Child Tax Credits continues as long as Child Benefit is still being paid
For Child Benefit to continue the course has to conform to certain levels/types

If your CB is still in payment, then contact Tax Credits ASAP
If CB has also been stopped, then you need to get in touch with them first - and they may require some proof of the course (eg. a letter from the college/school stating course details, and start and end dates)

I know I needed this both years DS2 was at college for a pension scheme (to prove he was still a dependant child), but have a sneaky feeling I had to send a copy to CB the first year as well - though this may have been due to the fact he'd had a year 'out' so I was effectively kicking in a new claim and not an extension like most of you will be at the moment

(Blimey it don't half make you watch what you're spending by being accountable on this thread!)

Doesn't it just! ;) I think that's what makes it such a big help to everyone.

Got dentist today at 3pm - already been to the loo twice, as I'm terrified of the dentist and have been since being a little girl......no laxatives needed for me today! :rotfl:

So - apart from dentist fee, it should be a NSD for me :) and I could sure do with one.

Right well I have been and got what was needed and spent a grand total of £9.43. This included 3 packs of wipes, some yoghurts, loo roll, a newspaper and a book for DS (it was only £1 and he's been a very good boy lately) all from Mr T then I went to the pound shop to look for a police hat that I have been promising him and they had sold out so he got a transformer toy instead and I found some lovely Christmas boxes so got 2 of those to either use as pressies or fill with baking nearer the time (only spent £3 in there but it should have only been £1). Not too bad but some unneccessaries. off to update sig

ETA - the nice man in the pound shop gave DS a bottle of bubbles for free because DS found one that was burst. The nice man mended it with tape and gave it to DS (lovely kind man)

    Afternoon everyone :D

Mr A delivery came last night (£56.35). Had a bit of a result with them too as they'd picked out the wrong cheese for me (I'd ordered 200g Cathedral C*ty x 2 @ £4 - on offer - but they gave me 2 x 350g @ £8.74 !!!). I definitely can't afford to spend £8 on cheese so I rang them and they admitted their 'pickers' error and refunded me the difference, plus I got more cheese for it so I'm a happy bunny :j.

So, a third of the way through the month (well, almost !) and I've spent nearly half of my budget ! Eeek ! But I'm not too worried as I've got enough food in to last another week. We're away next friday - sunday (17th - 19th) so we'll be eating at mum's and then it's just the last 10 days to shop for - I hope I can do it !
