My first attempt at the GC and I'm hoping that I make my budget of £200 for myself and 3 cats. I went to Iceland and spent £6, then Sains and spent another £5-48. Farmfoods for milk, two 4 pintas for £1-50, which should last until thurs. Just cooked up a big bolognese to portion up later.
Why is cat food soooooo expensive???? Tried all of the supermarkets own but my cats wont eat it. Aghhhh!

I use a ladle to dish up things like chilli - so do the same when portioning it up for the freezer - 1 slightly heaped ladleful = 1 portion in this house. Can't help you on the volume in measurement though - sorry
Thanks for that, I've just done my pot, it's cooling now. Bulked out with home grown courgette and sweet pepper. Will update when I portion it up.Jan GC £28-49/£120 NSD's 15/17

mongmoney, my cat will only eat Felix food & whiskas biscuits. I try & get it on offer.
Am hoping for a NSD day today. Wish me luck. I don't intend to go to the shops!

Hi All,
The thought just struck me (and forgive me as I don't do the cooking in our home) that soya mince is not the only way to bulk out mince dishes such as bol sauce, chilli, shep pie, etc. Perfectly cheap alternatives for bulk include red lentils (scrummy taste too), pearl barley and oats. There are probably other things as well, not forgetting of course various veg, but these just came to mind.
Well done mongy and adelight for getting into the swing so thoroughly. :T
Take care all,
Spigs
Thanks so much all of you that responded to my portion query. I used pearl barley in my stew and it worked a treat. Going to put it into a shepherds pie too. However, I need some more tupperware. Off to Wilko to see what they have. Maybe sunday morning will become my cook up time.Jan GC £28-49/£120 NSD's 15/17

I'm sending hubby to Mr Ts on the way to DS footie match for some bits and pieces (baking stuff mostly as I've got to make the cakes for kids pack-ups next week).
He's got a 'list' so he'd better stick to it
Shouldn't cost more than a fiver so will update sig when he gets back.
Lamb leg in s/c for dinner tonight, there will be enough left to make a byriani tomorrow night for tea too. Lunch is soup from the freezer (made loads earlier on in the year so trying to use up some of my 'stocks' of this - only about another 20 portions to go :rotfl:). The runner beans in the garden are coming to an end so I'm trying to use them up quickly, got loads in the freezer too but I know we'll be glad of them in the winter.
I was a bit 'redundant' yesterday (resting my leg as I burnt it on an apple pie ..... don't ask how !!) so I priced up my next weeks shopping and it came to just under £50. I feel like I'm getting the hang of this now
:money:.

I mix whiskas biscuits with Asda's own, they don't seem to notice. Felix pouches are still on offer at Asda, 48 for £10. I will post if I spot a good deal anywhere. We fussy cat owners need to stick together.Jan GC £28-49/£120 NSD's 15/17

I had a good day yesterday.... I had £20 given to me by a family member to help my budget a little, and as I needed some baking items (trays, storage boxes, scales etc as I had nothing practical enough etc) I used that £20 instead of using money out of my budget. Today I WILL be baking and batch cooking today.
Popped into Netto, and managed to get 3pk of garlic bulbs for 20p (bought 2), some fresh peas down to 38p some Kingsmill muffins on offer at 55p and in Asda, bought 4 oranges for 30p and some kiwi's at 50p (there's about 8 in the punnet). So £2.13 spent.
I am really hoping for a day or two of no spends this week!September Grocery Challenge: £200 (28th Aug - 30th Sept)
£91.64 spent so far. Aiming for 10 NSD: 1/100 -
Oh and I had freebie.... Forgot to mention!
DD always goes to my folks for dinner 2 days a week, and I dropped her off yesterday, just as my dad was pulling rhubarb up! So I had enough for a crumble to make today! Thank you Dad!September Grocery Challenge: £200 (28th Aug - 30th Sept)
