Right, spent £16.27 today, on some groceries and a chippy tea. Need to get a few more bits that either they didn't have or I couldn't get today else it would be off before I want it, but I should be ok for a bit now.

Had to go out to buy milk, noodles and peanuts as we decided we would have pad Thai - which was on my menu list for later in the week however we had got in too late to make the roast chicken I had planned for tonight.

Therefore I had to get expensive straight to wok noodles - £2.08  -as they were all which was available at Sbury Local (other than supernoodles which I didn't think would work!)

Also bought a bottle of wine but that is a gift for my neighbour to say thank you for giving us £10 of meat because it wouldn't fit in her freezer.

So all in all I spent £11.53 but at least I took a list and stuck to it. And it's still way cheaper than a take away.:D
  • I hang my head in shame. I was very lapsed about keeping receipts and recording my spends last week that I cannot complete last weeks challenge. However, Sunday is the start of a new week so I will do my best to keep an accurate record of my spending.

Hi there! Can I please be put down for $120 this month? I've decided to make this month a stocking up month, ready for a reduced spending month again in October.

Managed my first NSD yesterday! Very pleased, won't manage one today as need my Sunday Times but hoping to repeat the feat tomorrow. I'm hoping to have a massive baking session today to stop DH buying junk food.
Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!

Hellooo ... can I come back, I have lost the way over the week, and am just about through my budget but have got lots in the freezer, as I have bought a months supply of meat, and chicken and enough veg for the next two weeks. We have joined forces at work, so we can purchases bigger quantities at lower prices and be eligible for discounts. We had placed big orders with the local chicken factory and bought grade A chicken fillets approx 6-8oz in size that worked out 65p approx each - now have 30 in the freezer, Our local butchers give discount of 10% for orders over £150 so we all clubbed together and placed the order totalling £320 before discount, for myself my order was £72.59 so got discount of £7.25 - not much but better in my pocket than theirs! I did ask if we would get an extra discount since it was such a big order but unfortunately 10% was all they would give - if you dont ask you dont get;). Purse strings tightened severely now for the rest of September, and storecupboard living is the challenge this month too!! Good luck to you all,

    Suzy

  • Hi everyone

I started off the month really badly by spending way too much money on shopping:mad: I don't know what happened I just wasn't looking at prices and just chucking stuff in the trolly wrecklessly, the result is I have well over spent and I know its gonna be tough for the rest of the month. I do have a bit in though, so I know I can create meals, its just buying the fresh stuff, toiletries and snacks that are going to be the problem. There are 4 of us, 2 adults, 1 14 yr old and 1 11 year old. One has packed lunch, one has school dinner. OH is on a low fat diet due to health reasons, so buying sausages and making pies and pasties is out the question:(

My month runs to the 28th and for the rest of the month I am going to have to set myself a limit of £150 max. I really hope its doable, kids are quite fussy eaters and with OH dietary requirements I find this whole thing really difficult now.

    Wish me luck.

  • oh my... isn't this hard work after a break.

i gave up for the summer and am now forcing myself back. usually i write any purchases daily in my diary, then update on here every few days, but at the mo all i have is an empty diary, a list by the computer of the of each shop i've visited in sept and the takeaways i have bought (), and i need to go through my purse for receipts..

Therefore, think i'll be starting on the back foot (divide my budget by the number of days in the month and try to keep within the spending for the portion of the month that has gone by).. I need to do this today to focus myself though..

    Good luck everyone
