It's weird how Estate Agents come for so much flak for talking up their industry. Is there any industry that doesn't lie knowingly about what they do?
Having a nice car doesn't make you cool, but the car industry tells you it does. Creams don't make you younger, yet the entire beauty industry tells you it does. Special K doesn't make you slim, yet all the marketing campaigns say it does. Every single product / industry uses spin, embelishments and plain lies to sell stuff wherever they can so estate agents are just the same really.0 -

Must admit I never said, "Mrs Jones, Kevin is an indolent little toe-rag, who uses his two brain cells almost entirely for evil purposes, leaving no spare capacity for any intellectual activity."
Instead, I'd probably come out with some drivel, like, "Mrs Jones, I'm afraid that Kevin has found our work this year very challenging, so he has sometimes lost focus in the classroom, but on the whole, he is making the progress we would expect for a boy of his ability."
It's all about persuading people to adjust their expectations, innit?0 -
