Excel files all converted to Open Office.
My only regret being that I didn't do it sooner.
Agreed. The latest Ubuntu release IMHO makes the OS a real everyday operating system for the common man. It is no longer the domain of geeks and techno snobs.
Its like windows only much much better,faster,free...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

I've been installing it on computers sans licence for a while now. Its also been put on computers from households with people who seem incapable of even sending instant messages without infecting their computers. Feedback has been good. Most home users simply want to read email, chat with friends, facebook and listen to music and it can do it all.
I do have to do some tweaking and still have to tweak the smb.conf file FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS to put the server searches in the right order so it doesn't time out browsing the windows lan.0 -

Turn off UAC then
I turned off uac and got another annoying popup ever time I turned on my PC and my new network drive would only work if logged in as an administrator. Also I could no longer do other stuff , basically anything that before needed the pop up box to pop up. Turn UAC back on again seems you have to have it on if you want to actually use your PC. I go back to my original statementNothing to see here, move along.0 -

Not sure what you did, but you CAN be logged in as admin and have UAC switched off as I did
Never once did I get a popup asking for either:idea:0 -

Because in addition to (1) turning off the UAC there is a~n~other box (2) called ' change the way Windows notifies me ' which is located BLHS of the same page. Here you tell it not to remind you UAC turned off !
