I had Vista on a laptop for a while, not a fan.

Now moved over to Ubuntu and much happier, and more cost effective as it is free!
  • Shouldn't you have said "get your browser to download....." ? :)

Fair cop '' nottseagull '' you got me !

Bit like me experimenting trying to use speech recognition on my W7 lappy using webcam mic. Now when cat wants feeding instead of standing on keyboard he now sits on table in front of mic and purrs/miaouws(spelling?) which W7 recognised as start/hibernate. :rotfl:

Shimmy over to the Ubuntu website and get an incredibly good quality OS for free..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

you clearly have not had the issues i have had with vista,or you wouldnt have made the comment implying i wouldnt know where to find a downloaded file!!!!
    There in lies the issue.
I can assure you i am not the only person that has missing files that have been downloaded.
Any updates that have been done makes the issue rear its ugly head again.
offence has been taken from your comment! I will now have to open a bottle of red tonight now!!

Its not my problem you don't know how to use your computer. Why not try using the search function instead of blaming it for your incompetency?

We are comparing apples with apples here imo, there is no major difference between the two from my personal experience. I do wonder if some of the people slatting the system are just Mac users getting on the band wagon or people that feel they they need to justify to themselves why they paid out to upgrade from vista to win 7.

I have Windows 7 Family licence and I'm typing this on a Macbook Pro. Every computer in my house had XP then Vista on as I got free licences from Microsoft through one of their programmes. I don't care what the OS is.

As you said, Win7 is Vista with a modified GUI. Win7 introduces "Libraries" into the equation which I can guarantee is going to cause the OP a real headache if they can't even figure out where their browser is saving files.

I use XP. I use vista. I even use puppy linux now and again. Not played with 7 yet.

IMHO, XP p*sses over t'other two.....linux just isn't intuitive enough when you've been brought up on windows, and I don't have time to go sort it out and all the bits needed to go with it like drivers, etc, although to be fair the latest version is better in that respect, and the puppy desktop IS cute :)

Vista is just a steaming pile of dog-droppings, and as with said pile, deserves to be deposited in the nearest bin :(

Sorry, rant over after fixing ANOTHER vista machine :)

Good rant, but having not played with 7 how can you tell XP urinates on the other two unless you mean over Vista and Puppy and not 7. My rant over now.;)

Another vote for Ubuntu. I've recently installed it after becoming fed up with Vista. A few teething problems which the guys (and girls) on here helped fix.

Excel files all converted to Open Office.

My only regret being that I didn't do it sooner.
