Online PC Masters - scam

I just had a call from these guys too. They asked for some random named person initially then when I said no one of that name lived here the guy started up with his spiel about Microsoft Windows sending error messages that he could help fix. When I mentioned that I use ubuntu he didn't really seem to understand and still insisted that my computer was reporting Windows errors. Told him this would be really strange and that the only possible explanation was that he was a scam merchant. He only actually stopped trying and hung up when I mentioned that "Stan Moore" was a really strange name for someone with such a strong Indian accent...0

Had this once yesterday and again today. Today's said they were from iGlobal, their Computer Maintenance Department, official Microsoft agents. So I asked him for the IP address of the affected computer - he hung up immediately! Pity, really, I was looking forward to a good game!
iGlobal's website looks OK, though - so maybe they are being scammed as well! You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

I've started to receive persistent calls from these guys this week, asking for my wife by name, but hanging up when I ask them questions. Feels like they're targeting the vulnerable...

Whenever these guys call I just annoy them by trying to order some take away. This really just screws with them when you ignore what they say and keep trying to order a 10 inch pepperoni pizza and a bottle of cola. There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.0 -
Just got a phone call from these guys--a strong Indian accent from a lady who called herself Lydia de Sousa ?!!!
She said I had "problems" reported with my PC. I continued the conversation for as long as I could saying that if they knew such information then they were hacking. I asked for the company address and kept getting the request to switch on my pc--this stand off continued for some time. When asked why I wanted the address I said I wanted my lawyers to take up the case of illegal hacking
all went quiet !!--it was fun while it lasted and I managed to get rid of some tension !!
My advice is to strike up a conversation for as long as possible without touching your pc or giving away any personal information of any kind--and hopefully beat them into submission by wasting their time (if you have the time also!) .:j0 -
I am bored with these guys now, at one point we were getting 2-3 calls a day.
Speaking to some of my offshore support guys, they told me a very simple word in Hindi/most dialects that is a)guaranteed to confuse the hell out of them because an English person just said it, and b) is a rather offensive insult.
Advice from Mods here before I post it... Allowed or not?0 -

These people have been pestering me with silent calls since I told them I was recording them when they phoned me last. I have just sent an email to Luton trading standards about it.0 -
Allowing someone to connect to you that you do not know via vm - especially if you claim to be computer literate is stupid - for one thing the host machine can be infected, for another vm software is not specifically designed for security and there are several VM vulnerabilities.
I would never allow such a connection - ever - under those circumstances, not least because I am computer literate, but because I have common sense. The problem with common sense is that it is not that common, as the first post demonstrates.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
For the first time ever, I reluctantly "post" !
Online pc masters seem to be stalking us with lots of phone callls in two batches: 6 months ago and again now. The usual thing: your computer is showing a virus, let us remove it for you, upload software on to your computer and then we will charge you....v pushy, and despite getting rid of them eventually 6 months ago, they are ringing again. A recent article in the Luton post investigates this company. Let Trading standards know if you too are contacted, as in our case it is virtually harrassment, the dedication with which they are ringing us!0 -
