  • Good to hear your kids all got through the day.

Last year's kids thought the first one was easy too which led to a lot of us panicing that they had missed a page out or something. :rotfl:

As for age adjustments AQE will not reveal anything on this. They have been asked over and over again and they keep saying that some "expert" at Queens devised the system and they can'texplain it.

Have you considered asking for the information under the FOI act ?
What way does the scoring work for AQE ? GL assessments are out of 65 for English and 45 for Maths. The raw score is out of 110 and then depending on your dob a percentage is applied (I think) to give everyone a 'fair crack at the whip'.
So a child born say in October who scores 43/65 in English and 37/45 in Maths has a raw score of 80/110 which as a standardised score is 225/282 (B2). A child born in say February scores 31/65 in English and 42/45 in Maths has a raw score of 73/110 (standardised score of 227 -B2).

    One done:T

DS came out and seemed relatively happy, answered everything and had time to go back and go over the paper again to check for obvious mistakes. He said the English section was quiet hard:eek: but English is not his strong point anyway, so more revision needed for that over the next few weeks:o

He seemed quiet calm and relaxed about the whole process, I'll have to get a Valium prescription for me and his mother for the next 2:rotfl:

Good luck to all doing the GL on Saturday, hope all goes well for you, I can't wait till the 5th of December myself:)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:
  • Good luck to all the kids. It just dawned on us this will be us next year. My son is a paradox in school. If he is a "good" mood and wants to work he will do really well in the class if hes in a mood he will be medocre to poor. The recent tests he had, the standard ones for his age, he was in a good mood and scored one of the highest if not the highest in his class. However hes more likely to be a bad mood and will not try :( . We are looking at getting him the coaching you can get. Anyone try this and was it worth it?

    Try Blackmail;)

I've found the offer of a new laptop to DS if he gets a good score and into his required school seems to be working so far (fingers crossed) I know it unethical:o but if it works happy days.

DS3 is doing his on the 24th with an educational psychologist at 9.30am..
His 2 older brothers are in grammar schools and the pressure is on!!
I asked him not to do it, but he said he really wants to....
Truthfully I am in need of valium as he really is hit or miss.....it just depends on the day!!

He has the element of an older brother in each grammar school in our area....But
He has medical problems....he has aspergers, asthma, speech problems (slushy speech) and hearing problems too

I dont want him putting too much pressure on himself...which is already happening but try telling him not to do the test!!

Mumoffour....I think your son sounds like a very capable young man! He will do his best because he sound determind and really that's all we can ask of them! It sounds like he has alot of challenges that he has to overcome daily that are out of his hands and perhaps he sees this test as a challenge he has the power to control...I really hope he does well,it would be great to goto school with one of his brothers.
You are right about the pressure as I have said,my daughter looked like she was in a pressure cooker sometimes but she is well aware we have no preference of what school she chooses so the work she put in was all for herself and I think her own pressure helped her focus on that...does that make sense!?
Have faith that your boy will end up where he needs to be....if our daughter goes to the local secondary then she will do just as well there because she is determind, just like your son-if she ends up in grammar then she will put her heart into it and keep up with the rest,if she struggles I will be the first one to ask the school for help,as I'm sure you would be!
All the best for the test anyway I will be glad when it's summer lol
    it takes more energy
    to hate than to love...
    love and relax!

  • Thank you Happy mummy!!
    Love the name!! :)

He is a little more settled today....but it was a late night!! :(
As long as he does his best, I dont want him to be disappointed, but as long as he says i tried my best!

I do think he is stressed, his eczema has flared...but that could be due to the weather change too!!
But my tears came when i cradled him in my arms like a newborn and he cried saying he didnt want to be thought of as stupid if he failed the test, I told him loads of people failed but some had better jobs than ones who passed, I told him that its what he does with the information he is taught in any school that will help him pass even bigger exams like GCSEs and A levels.

I hate that such small children are made to worry about their education so early in life! I hate that a 14 year old child has to make career choices in choosing their GCSEs.

Hello, he is in there right now. I told the lady who took him in that he had diarrhoea this morning, I just hope it doesn't happen during the exam. I guess it is nerves, I don't know if he if getting a bug. Dear me, he hasn't looked at a book for days, we went to the cinema last night - all to chill him out. Oh dear, I hope he doesn't have to go during it, he spent ages in the loo before.
    I am sooooo worried.

Edit...he came out and said it was very hard...much harder than last Saturday. Thankfully he did not have to re-visit the loo.

I hope everyone else whose children sat todays GL had happy faces at 12:30. Roll on christmas....
  • My son did the GL assessment yesterday.
He said the English was tricky but doable but the Mathswas extremely easy, most other kids with him saidthe same.
    Thank God it's over.
Good Luck to al the AQE folk:beer:
