The InCAS scores aren't considered in cases where children are trying to get into grammar school wthout sitting the transfer tests. So, from that, I assume there is no correlation.Stercus accidit0

Hi all
Just wanted to say I am following this thread very carefully. My dd may be sitting these transfer test next year (YR7). Just wanted to ask is there any correlation between InCAS results and marks for these tests? I have only the one child and I do not have any idea whether she will be fit for g. schools. In Yr 5 in her InCas test she scored well above her age although this year both results for English and Maths have gone down. Teacher stated she did not think the marks were a true reflection of her ability but did not indicate if she was g. school material. The school as far as I know does not give any help to those preparing for transfer exams.
I don't think there is much correlation in the Incas and the tests, my lad scored above his age in primary 5 and 6, the primary 7 scores have just come out and he is right on his age now:o
Primary 6 (Yr 6) seems to be the big year for our kids and it seems to be the teachers in that year who advise us if our child is up to the tests, thats what happened in our school anyway. This is not written in stone however as after talking to other parents who were advised not to put their kids in for the test, have done so, and so far their practice test scores have come out OK.
As for the schools not giving help and assistance for the tests, they cannot be seen to be doing this openly because the Nazi education minister will personally tell them off:o My primary have been very helpful to both parents and children in this matter, but have had to disguise the help they have given;)
Six days and counting till the first one:eek: I think the parents are more stressed out than the kids:rotfl:I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Hi, just regarding the Incas. My daughter has always been way below average in her Maths and just slightly above in her English. These have no reflection on her capabilities for doing the Transfer Test. She started off getting in the 40's in the tests and now she's up into the 70's, low 80's. Have to say it hasn't been easy. She has been going to a tutor last few months and my life has basically been on hold for the last couple of months.
Really can't wait until its over and we can get back to normality.
It will be worth it all though to see her face if she gets the school she wants. She actually has her top 3 and doesn't mind which.
In her teachers last P7 class, 24 out of 25 of the kids got a grammar school place. I think that must be nearly a record! Her school is fabulous!
Honestly my nerves are totally shattered. Will be a restless week. The parents are worse than the kdis.

Doggies - thanks for your post - My eldest is doing transfer this year and her incas have always been good and I dont really need to stress too much about these transfers (dont need to but of course I am - ...) but my next is P5 at the moment - her Incas for English are above her age which is great but she is always struggling with her maths and her incas shows this. I was worrying that she wouldnt be fit for grammar but your post is reassuring.....
Hopefully once Saturday is over the next two will be easier to face......0 -
Hi Bobs, my daughters Incas are always on the same sort of score every year, above average in English, below in Maths. But she is almost doing better in the Maths parts of the practise papers than the English. She did Incas test a few weeks ago and it was below in Maths again. I had sort of expected it to be a bit better with all the tuition and extra work we do at home and was disappointed. Her teacher said not to be worrying as her practise tests in school have steadily risen and in his opinion she is more than able to cope with Grammar school. As far as I'm concerned its these pesky transfer tests that matter more at the minute. Before the summer I honestly would have said she had no chance of doing well in these tests. She couldn't even understand the questions never mind attempting to do them. But she seems to have got inspiration from somewhere and worked really hard. Half the battle if they want to do it. She certainly isn't the type to be pushed into anything or pressured.
Fingers crossed. :j0 -

Hi to all you stressed out parents!!!!
Just want to let you know I'm thinking about you all! We were in the exact same position this time last year! Tbh I can't believe its been a year and I totally understand your stress (from someone who said she wasn't going to stress!).
One year on my son is in Grosvenor absolutely loving it!! We went through the practices and tests, then that awful results day where it meant absolutely nothing to us!! But his score actually turned out to be very good! He got 112 so top of the 2nd quintile - my initial reaction (and my simplistic mind trying not to analyse things!) assumed this was a B1 but as it turns out its a fairly good A.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is try not to worry - the only "horror" stories I have heard are of two children who didn't sit the test and didn't get into any of their local high schools!
Good luck to each and every one of your kids over the next few weeks and just remember so long as they are happy and healthy they will always fulfil their potential!!!:beer:0 -
Hi Relievedmum, thanks for your message. It must have been harder for you last year being totally in the dark about the scores and what was needed for grammar schools. At least we have a bit more of an idea.
My daughter does hers tomorrow and she was nervous this morning going to school! She had butterflies! I know she'll be fine though. She did one of last years tests last night and got 50 out of 64 which I roughly translate as 78% or 113, although this is not correct as the age thing etc has to be taken into account. But she was really delighted. Considering she would have got about 45% a few months ago I'm delighted!
I just keep telling her to try her best, thats all I want. Am proud of her hard work no matter what the score is!
I didn't sleep great last night, I expect last night will be worse!!! This is from someone who doesn't get to stressed, but it can't be helped really!

Our DD did hers last Saturday. She woke up in a happy positive mood and went off with DH to do test. I was a nervous wreck at home, washed and scrubbed everything in sight! When they came back she was bit more subdued, she'd loved the English/VR but had struggled with maths/NVR.
We assured her that we were happy that she'd tried her best and to forget all about it now.
I can't tell you how much more relaxed and relieved our whole family has been since then. I never realised how wound up and stressed we were all feeling until it's now over and done with.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow and then RELAX! x0 -
Good luck for tomorrow everyone.
Relievedmum has pretty much said everything that I would say. My son is also at Grosvenor and loving it. The months of worry that he wouldn't get there were almost unbearable. Its hard to believe that its a year ago now that we were in the same position as you are now.
If anyone is doing the test in Grosvenor, your kids will be well looked after and the adults too.0
