I think the issue is with the soil that might be on them. As long as you wash them I can't see the harm - they are full of nutrients.
Then again I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong.

Yep, that's what I heard as well, something about some chemicals in fertiliser that could still be on the outside of them. But I'm sure you could scrub them and then mostly eat the flesh out of the jacket spud rather than the skin and it would be fine... Then again, I'm just repeating what I've heard which may not have any basis in fact...

Maybe ask on one of the pregnancy thread, see if they know?
I think it is probably like other vegetables - give 'em a good scrub and wash before eating them

Lol, can't eat potato skins?! I have without a second thought and me and Giblet are perfectly fine (I'm over 27 weeks now but like to look in on you ladies). Runny eggs are also fine as long as they are lion-marked (it's eradicated salmonella completely in this country). The ONLY thing I haven't eaten in my pregnancy is pate as there is still a high risk of listeria - everything else is fine to continue with in moderation/properly washed & cooked.

To my knowledge:
Most, if not all, of the food avoidances that may be recommended in pregnancy are food poisoning risk related. Bugs in soil is one of the biggest food risks (but how many times have we had food poisoning from soil pre-preg/TTC??) but thoroughly washed and (where necessary) peeled foods are fine, and there's more chance of getting salmonella from the outside of the egg than from a runny inside, and unpasteurised dairy and cured meats (instead of cooked) are the biggest listeria risks - like Skint Cat says. Listeria can cause an infection in the unborn baby that you can be unaware of but can cause still-born/babies that die shortly after death, from what I recall - so I'm with Skint Cat on being more concerned about that one too.:o I think that's one that's only a real issue once the placenta is supporting bubs too though.
My take on it would be to not worry about allllllll of the ifs, buts, and maybes while TTC. Your doc/midwife, when you get the BFP, will point out the things you really need to avoid - and, for that matter, anyone whose docs are aware of TTC would've mentioned any real risks, and mine was only concerned about medication and taking Folic Acid.

So, I'm back down to my pre-houseguest-blowoutAnd for some more PMA, I'm having my hair lobbed off and recoloured tomorrow, I can't wait

I mainly replied because when I was on this thread I was petrified that I would never remember what to eat/what not to eat but I really needn't have worried. I remember in the first few weeks of finding out, hubby & I ordered a 'combo' platter in a pub to share - it came with pate, baked camembert and mayonnaise among other things because I hadn't given it much thought before we ordered. I was gutted & hardly ate a thing but actually the only item that I couldn't have touched was the pate - camembert is fine when it's been cooked and mayonnaise 9.9 out of 10 will be from a jar as premises need a licence to make their own (so no raw egg worry).
Now I dig in without a second thought (though I'm still wary of prawns - probably because I've gone completely off them since I got pregnant!)
Happy bd'ing everyone!
