Question: Am I just being difficult? I have a bad attitude when it comes to companies selling you stuff based on guilt/anixety (which is exactly what I am doing now). Am I the only person not taking anything? Any stats on folic acid/spina bifida? Is there anything else that I should consider?
I'm not into companies guilting us into anything either, however, I would say that where folic acid is concerned you would be taking an unnecessary risk by not taking it. It is vital in the prevention of neural tube defects - which develop so, so, early in the pregnancy. I don't have stats to hand though I could probably track them down as much as the next person, but what I have read has been enough to convince me that it's worth taking (and for DH too). The doctors actually recommend that any woman of childbearing age should take it, as it's that important, not just TTCing women....

ETA: "50% to 70% of these NTDs (Neural Tube Defects) could be prevented if women took 400 mcg of folic acid daily, before and during pregnancy."
    Works for me :)

Just to clarify - once pregnant I would take whatever vitamins... It's just the TTC part of taking Folic acid that i'm not sure about... (really must leave).

also try and remember that whilst women have been producing children for many a year, they werent all healthy babies and many sadly didnt survive.

(my OH is doing his family tree and sadly its a common story of infant death, 1 family had over 10 children die in early infancy )

    lecture over ;)

They recommend taking it for at least 3months prior to pregnancy wherever possible, not just when carrying baby :)

    ETA:
"How long do I need extra folic acid for?
The Department of Health recommends that you start taking folic acid as soon as you stop using contraception. This is because it can be hard to know exactly when you'll conceive, and the baby’s spine develops very soon after conception.
Folic acid should be taken until your 12th week of pregnancy."

My goodness you ladies can chat! I'm only jealous as I wouldn't be able to go on here whilst I'm at work. lol

Well my first week is over!! Yay!!! I've marked most of my books - just got one lot of literacy left to mark, but as it's ongoing, I decided to do it next week, as I'm not going to waste my weekend marking books when I'm not being paid to do so. Started to bond a bit more with one of the 1:1s that works in my classroom in the mornings, so that's nice. I've also managed to dramatically tidy up the chaos of a classroom, so it's feeling a bit calmer, and the children said to me "You've done a really good job" - which was nice (they are only 6/7).

Still got sore boobs - I feel like I need to hold on to them as I walk, so I think that they may be growing a bit too (I've only got bee stings, so the fact they are moving a lot more, makes me think they are). Fingers crossed it's not my imagination - I could do with an extra cup size. ;)

Well not much more to report.

    Happy babydancing everyone.

    sexymouse xx
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Hey sexymouse, mine are really tender too. Like achey, full, mostly like pre-AF - but I usually only get that feeling 2 days before AF and I'm only 5dpo!

I keep jiggling them in the mirror and poking them now, just to make sure they are tender. That's prob why they still feel tender!! :D

Congrats on your first week being over!! thats always the worst week IMO!

Same here - the comment about the poking them made me laugh. I've been doing the same. :rotfl:

I know we shouldn't be symptom spotting, but it's really hard not to. :o

    Fingers crossed for us both.
