    Where do I start!

I think definitely number one is Flylady - my kitchen and bathroom have never looked so clean for so little effort.

Then the SC - I keep wondering about a BM but I don't know where it would live (might wait till after the extension.

Stardrops, I got a mark out of our relatively new carpet that had survived several other cleaners.

My Old Style moment when I was pregnnat & 2 OS'ers who I had never met took the trouble to get in touch with me & offer me baby/maternity stuff. Yes I was feeling very hormonal & emotional because I was up the duff, but they were just such lovely, unexpected & much apprecieated gestures from people who only knew me as a user name, I still think about their kindness. So a big big thank you to Caterina & Sarahsaver

When someone else on this board announced they were pregnant I made a point of PM'ing them & posting some of my unused stuff off to them. Wish they would come back online so that I could find out what they had!!

Erm a few tips from OS here:

    1. Have given me the guts to try and cook new recipes - eg lasagne!
    2. Helped it to dawn on me that value chopped tomatos are just fine!!
    3. Helped it to dawn on me that it's easy and cheap to make soup - I knew this but had forgotten!
    4. Helped me to realise that cooking from scratch doesn't actually take loads of time, especially if you cook double and freeze one lot for later!! Thanks!

    I guess I'm just a bit slow! :)

Thanks to everyone with the recipes on here, I've collected loads instead of buying new cook books!! Especially Black Saturn for the lasagne recipe and the fruit cobbler, and to someone else for the microwave flapjacks!

I just love it. As a teenager I wanted to be a home ec teacher which was thought of as a bit sad at the time, but when I did food studies for my gcses we had loads of stuff, how to feed a family of 4 for under £2 and there was even a thrift badge at brownies which was the first one I got :A so I think Ive always been OS ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper :D

I love the fact that when people come over my house they LOVE the food I make, are usually impressed enough to bring a couple of *spare* bottles of wine.

When I move house Im *treating* myself to a breadmaker :D and I just cant wait to get it!

the best thing is no one thinks on here that Im sad. And I just cant get over all the tips and recipes, OS is like heaven :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Slowcooker for me! I bought it the MSE way ;) And make OS meals :) I think it will be used more and more as the weather gets colder too

I've rekindled my passion for my breadmaker and we're having a lot more HM bread... I've found the confidence to make jam and a lot of things I never would have tried before. I am more organised than I have EVER been before in the kitchen but meal planning still slightly eludes me :) Too often I plan and then get home much later than intended or get home and end up working (conference calls ARGH) so dinner either changes or becomes take away when OH get's home... Need a freezer so I can keep more "HM microwave meals" in there ready for these occasions ;) Will carry on bugging OH about this ;)

Thanks for starting this thread Math its really lovely to see what other people have taken from the board.

I must admit I have never been very old style and in truth probably never will be. I work away from home a lot and so it makes it very difficult to join in with most of the challenges - PIN, Store Cupboard, grocery - when you are off to a hotel 4 nights a week:rolleyes: I think for me the benefit I get out of the boards is less about the tips and much more about the people.

Now having said the above I would like to add that since reading and loving the OS board (its my natural home even if Im not always welcome:D ) then I have purchased the following:

Slow Cooker in which I have cooked TMs gammon and a soup
    Microfibre cloths (love em)
white vinegar (havent really used much but you never know one day;))
    and lots of "real" food

The most important thing that I have got out of OS..................................

Its the people:A I have made some lovely friends on this board some of which I have met and loved and one particular will be a life long friend
without doubt. I do find it sad that some people seem to turn their nose up at the posters who want to join in but are not as OS as the rest or who want to dictate what old style should be like but my experience is that the vast majority are lovely welcoming peeps who I am quite happy to steal recipes from (and one day I will post one:D )

Anyway thats my view for what its worth now back to the Hilton for a bit of room service:mad:

Need to thank the OS board for...

Convincing me to get a breadmaker (the Panasonic SD253 no less!).

Helping me when I ask silly questions like - how do I cook an omelette, it's not obvious when you've never made one before!

Helping me reduce my food shopping bill from well over £240 a month to just £120, I actually eat better now than I did when I was wasting all that money on pre prepared rubbish.

My only 'dud' purchase I have to say was the slowcooker :( I bought the Morphy Richards one that everyone suggested, I made a beef stew and a chicken casserole (on the same day - I was up from the crack of dawn!) and they both tasted horrible. The only thing I can think of is that I hadn't washed the crock pot bit out thoroughly enough as they both had a really funny taste to them.
