You helped me...chatty thread

After all our soul bearing and getting off our chests of the last couple of days I thought it would be nice to have a thread devoted to celebrating all the good things and benefits we have received from the OS board our OS virtual family.

What prompted me was a few weeks ago someone Pm'd about a tip they had got from me yonks ago before MSE was revamped and computers were powered by a twisted elastic band LOL and how they continued to use it to this day.I was a great feeling to think I had made a small difference to someones life and wallet and that adding rolled oats to mince to bulk it up will forever be called "Doing a MATH" in at least one household. LOL

What's the greatest 'lighbulb' moment or tip you have received from here or maybe it is the support and friendship you can take comfort in during difficult times.

Let's all celebrate the good things here and give thanks where it is due.

If it had not been for OS I would never have got a breadmaker and made my own bread, rolls, pizza dough and jam.

I also would not have bought a large slow cooker which has saved me time and money and means I know what is in the food.

  • mine is knowing i'm not the only person who does things "old style", and learning not to care what others think of me for being this way. if they think i'm sad and old fashioned its their problem, not mine.

I too have bought and use a breadmaker and large slow cooker. I menu plan effectively and have ditched the TD. The biggest difference OS has made is the state of my house. Thanks to the fly lady challenges I have a clean tidy home all of the time instead of almost never. The fact that it costs me 58p a month (bottle of stardrops from Wilkinson) to keep it this way is just added value. The difference this has made to my mental health is priceless.
    Thank you OSers! :j

    I've been Money Tipped!
Being encouraged to actually use all those gadgets like the sc and the bm - now the house smells lovely!

Also using an airer (still known as a Math in this house :D )

Cleaning the micro with ease (lemon in hot water) Thank you Math for that one!

I am sure that there are many more if I go away and think of them. Thank you Math - a wonderful idea for a thread!:T

  • Actually it's what I have not got out of this site thats important to me !

The old style thread has made me apprerciate how well my folks have brought me up, I know all about slow cooking, batch cooking, cleaning with vinegar and bicarb. My house is tidy and really clean and I know how to manage my chores to get everything done.

I also like to save where I can and apart from my mortgage have no debt.

It's really made me appreciate them and I've told them so.

    Thanks

So many good things have happened via OS for me. First of all it was the Slow Cooker, then it was the Bread Maker. I've lost count of all the helpful tips (vinegar, bicarb, Stadrops etc etc!!) as well as all the wonderful recipes and meal planners. My cupboards are neater and my shopping lists trimmed!

If Queenie hadn't started her PIN Money thread I would never have added up all my 'savings' let alone kept them in a seperate account. :T :T

Knowing that cooking from scratch is the norm for many OS's (I'm considered a bit odd at work for taking in home made bread and home made soup). It's made a huge difference to both our health and pockets in this household. We'll never buy ready meals again!
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

I'm with the slow cooker brigade! Used to survive mostly on sandwiches and breakfast cereal...now I actually cook (well, most of the time).

The biggest benefit I get from MSE in general, and Old Style in particular is the ongoing support and encouragement which is always so forthcoming. I live alone and it's often hard to find motivation to do anything. There has been lots of great advice received too, which I'd never have had the benefit of without this forum.

Thank you MATH, this is a lovely thread!
