I've picked up loads of tips from this forum, I bought my slow cooker a couple of years ago when I joined here and I love it, it also makes me feel more homely with lovely food smells in the house!! lol The most help I had was when I first joined and life was difficult financially, after all the tips on here I was able to reduce my weekly shopping to a much more manageable amount and I got a lot of satisfaction out of doing that.
I dont do all the old style things, but I do cook from scratch, sometimes giving way to a jar of Dolmio lol
I love the community feeling on this board but just wish we could take this old style board out on its own and chat to our hearts content lol“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -

Not knowing the history, I'm guessing you had a bad experience?
This certainly has not been the case for me. i am a relative newbie and gravitated to wards OS accidentally (it was actually mr BadExamples cookery threads - I haven't laughed so much in ages).
I have found everyone here to be very warm, friendly, helpful and welcoming WITHOUT EXCEPTION!

Hello all
well im cautiously dipping my foot into the old style forum. Ive only ever posted once or twice but im a lurker almost daily. (have to agree at mr badexample thread - brilliant!)
Ive always been a bit of an OS but didnt really know what to name it till I found this.
But thanks to OS boeard, I make good use of my breadmaker - now using squeakys recipe yum, my slow cooker is an essential part of my meal routines, I am on to my second 5l of white vinegar and I even went and boughtg stardrops last week.
So let me just say thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to all on OS, the hints, tips, recipes and stories are great.

The best bit for me is coming back from a holiday to find that I had won a bottle of champagne for the best OS recipe under £1.50, (I think), homemade pizza . Thank you Martin! Thank you OS!
Also the meets were great, the first one in York and the second in Blackpool., great to put faces to the typos HEHEHE
Love to all

Having already been living Old Style (just didnt realise it) there wasnt much for me to 'learn'. However, its been lovely meeting like minded people who also live a lifestyle like i do!!!!
Mind you, will say i have loved the recipe thread, ive impressed my friends with some of the recipes ive learnt from there, and ive also learned the benefits of stardrops and microfibre clothes!!!!!
Ive also made friends with some lovely friendly people, which i wouldnt have done, if i hadnt found the OS board, so a big thumbs up from me!!!!0 -
Definitely the best board here.
I've only been here for a month, but I can safely say there are lots of friendly and creative people willing to offer help and knowledge on a huge variety of subjects.
Out in the big wide world non OS friends have called me a hippy or treehugger for the way I do things! Here others do the same as me and it's fab....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

Someone should mention the original "queen" of old style - Cathy. It was her who got me onto snapping dishy tablets in half & much more besides. She pretty much started this board up & it's come a long way since then.
This board has certainly made me less wasteful & better at recycling. I think more about what I can re-use before throwing it away. I discovered freecycle here & have given away junk that would have previously gone to the tip.
Probably the best thing about it is I can come on here & talk about food all day! The people are a friendly, helpful & likeminded bunch. You aren't made to feel like you can't join "the gang" if you don't have a slow cooker or breadmaker (I have neither, although I do have an ice cream machine & a smoothie maker!).
