Yeah! Go Iris!! Such great news!!
ps: just had a weird look from people in the office when I shouted when I read your posts
What did you actually shout ?
Anyone know how I will work out roughly what in interest I'd pay this way. I know I'm asking how long is a piece of string here and the rates should rise again. There must be a easy formula to working something out though.
Maths isn't my forte.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -

Won't go into too much details..let's say part of it was not so polite and in a different language..:p I know this is very important for you, and am over the moon it has been granted...

If it were me i would probably set it up as a spreadsheet, and look at paying the best ISA rate (currently 3.3%) and probably pay interest daily, so you can then reduce interest paid daily when you pay it back. Also then, it is documented so you can show the person what you will pay back and how you've done it.
Sounds good. Hope it all goes to plan. Does that mean you can start straight away rather than wait 6 months? If so very cool .Good things happen to nice people.

No Cath/ SE, not really. We've gone the sensible route. We don't want to be tied down to a mortgage forever and it needed a lot of work doing to it anyway. Are you staying where you are now Cath ? We're doing the extension in about 6 months, there's an existing one in place already and we want to build on top. That's like your property isn't it?
The sensible choice then, if we all bought the house we really wanted we would never be mortgage free!
We have plans for a 2-storey extension given to us by previous owners but none of it has been built. Our current plan is to possibly do ground floor extension in next couple of years when I am back off maternity leave and then the 2nd floor in about 5-7 years when we desperately need more space upstairs. I'm just glad we saved well and spent £6500 on a garage conversion after DD was born. Some new houses don't compare to the living space we actually have so I need to learn to be more satisfiedJune 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Thanks Michelle.:D The spreadsheet bit goes over my head though a little... I can do my mortgage one and that's about it! lol It sounds great though. I'll have to think about that one. He's not behind the door about money though ( the lender ) as he's very into interest rates, I'm sure he'll know what's what. Yes straight away but we have to chat to planning first and I want to get this extension right.
Ar right Cath. We have the ground floor already which is a cloakroom, more room in the kitchen, utility room and a toilet., so a lot more room than there was originally. We plan to get an extra 2 bedrooms upstairs. How long do your plans last for?
I'm really pleased about it all though as DS1 is sleeping in the utility room when we move until he goes to Uni. Poor thing, but at least he has is own toilet and kitchen there. He won't want for much more! It's the only way he gets more space though.
My bro has said his cleaner is £9 per hour and only does Mondays so that's no good for me. OH says save the money but I'll decide nearer the time on what to do.
OH has an interview on Monday. He only found out about the job today through an agency. :j He's still off sick at the mo
Had a call off the EA - we could all be ready to move in a few weeks! I better get packing. I ordered some empty boxes off ebay as you can't find them anymore in supermarkets etc. I plan to sell them on though :money: so don't worry Martin!I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Try independent shops in your area maybe for boxes. Our Mr M has smaller ones, but i was thinking i know my mum has a shop, and just has to get rid of all her boxes stuff is delivered in, so she is happy to save any if anyone asks. Shame you aren't nearer.0

Am sure the plans have expired as we have been here 6 years but the ideas are there and I guess we could get them amended/repassed when we are ready. Next door but one already have a ground floor extension and are planning a first floor - I would love to see it!
Ask in Wilkinsons for your boxes, I worked there years ago and we would keep them off the delivery for anyone that asked:)June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
No harm in asking them Cath. It wouldn't bother me if someone asked. What can they say..no?
Good idea about the boxes, I'll ask at the local paper shop.
I ordered 35 different sized boxes and they are really sturdy. We've started packing DVDs already and have filled 3 of the boxes so we are going to need more.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
More good news ..
Payment cleared from TCB which I'm having in an amazon code, I spend there anyway so I've sent the money to the ISA.
We have been offered more money to put against the mortgage :j..a loan of 60k  which'll be in 3 years time when our rate runs out and when it'll be no longer tied into an ISA. The same rule applies that we need to match the interest in the ISA. It's a very generous offer. I think that we may have to see a FA nearer the time as not sure if questions will be asked about where its come from. I'm not entirely comfortable with owing an individual nearly £80,000 ( £20k for the extension plus the further 60k ) but it makes me determined to pay if off as quickly as possible.
I've really weighed up borrowing the 20k as we only want to pay off £100 pm at first. Obviously we would pay less to the bank than that a month but would pay more in interest long term. I feel that there is more of a rush to pay it this way and we can't be buying this and that for the house when we owe this person so much. Obviously we want to make the new house into a home. Also I'm not too well up on ISA's , mainly because we've never had savings so what happens if the rates go up? Are we still in a win situation? My head is hurting from it all. So, although there's very positive sides to it ..there's downsides too. I don't mean to sound ungrateful as I'm not. We are extremely lucky.
I spent £30 in boots yesterday on medicines alone. My OH has been signed off again for a month so we had to get his perscription plus I bought 2 x Metatone tonic and 3 months of wellwomen vitamins for me, ( on 3 4 2 ) as the cheaper brands just aren't the same. We are both feeling exhaustive at the moment and are both suffering from depression. Not surprising really when we rhyme off what we've been through the last 2 years. We've been on a none stop rollercoaster and I think it's all come to a head. So I'm glad he's off and he can recharge his batteries.
I'm praying for some sun today...a bit of sunshine always makes people feel betterI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Good morning,
I've already completed a survey and will get a £3 reward so I've which I've popped into the ISA already.
I've got a bid in for a dehumidifier on ebay , I keep getting outbid by a couple of quid but I want to get it as cheap as possible so I'm prepared to wait. I know exactly how much they go for and some people have paid £20 more than others from the same seller. They are mad !
I've emailed one p8ll this morning as I've not received any bonus money for the referrals I made in March , also DS4 reached his £20 payout on Young p8ll and there was a problem for me signing onto my account to get the money for him. I've not done any surveys for ages though as I haven't got the time or the motivation recently.
DH has still not heard where he's going or what the presentation is for his interview or Monday so we've decided that he's not going. It's all just added pressure which we don't need at the moment. He still has the other job interview in the pipeline and is just waiting for the 2nd lot of tests to be sent through.
We think we are having a run out to West Yorkshire today to Redbrick Mill where theres a few homeware shops. We don't plan to spend but it would be nice to buy something for the new house and to get out for a while.I can't be bothered updating this anymore0
