Kaliedoscope - I don't think anyone will pull you up on grammar on here when you have so much on your mind atm

Have you been over on to the other boards where the posters help one another out with their household budgeting, to see if there is anywhere you could make significant savings over the next two or three months? There is also an "Up your Income " board. Could your 16year old help out by getting a part time job?
Do you have anything that is surplus to requirements that you could sell?
Is there a local credit union?
Im going to be honest enough to say that we live a pretty meagre existence as it is...there are no luxuries, we dont go out, drink, smoke etc..myself and my husband dont buy new clothes and food shopping is done with calculator in hand....a lot of our money has also been funding a 19 year old who is at university..we have literally spent thousands..the 16 year old has tried desperately to get a job..but we live in North East Wales and jobs for anyone..are thin on the ground..even our local Asda has no vacancies
he is due to start 6th form soon but is still tramping round looking for a part time job..
We dont have luxuries like sky or anything like that so savings are made there..we get our electricity from utility warehouse which offered us the cheapest deal..and we are on a water meter at present which has proved to be a good thing because we have watched our water consumption carefully..theres certainly no way we can find about £1.5-2K in 2-3 months..but I have been ebaying baby stuff so I will go through the house with a find tooth comb looking for stuff to sell..if it comes to it..I will sell higher value stuff..Id rather have a roof over my head than a camera!
We do need to buy white goods as well as they were provided in this house so we sold ours thinking we would be here for years.0 -
can I just ask..what is a credit union? sorry for sounding thick...I will definitely have a look at the "up your income" board0
-
It's not "thick" to ask questions in order to find out about things new to you.

Credit Unions are community savings and loan co-operatives and are regulated by the FSA (Financial Services Authority). They are managed & owned by their members with a Board of Directors who are elected annually at a general meeting.
They operate on a ‘not for profit’ basis with the funds raised from charges/interest used for the benefit of The CU's members (savers get a dividend at the financial year end.)
See here for an example of a Credit Union. You would need to become a member and look at how you can put something into the Union first - difficult if your money is tight already but if you are able to sell some things, it may be a possibility. You'd obviously have to check out the specific rules of any CU local to you.0 -
freecycle is a marvellous resource for getting free stuff.. do you know about it ? i am thinking of you getting more white goods .....0
-
Could your 19 year old borrow the money on a student overdraft or something?0
-
ah thanks all..will look into a credit union...ooh yes freecycle..its fantastic! weve already had lots of things from there..white goods tend to get snapped up quickly but will keep an eye out..I find ebay good for white goods too as they are usually collection only so dont reach an ridiculous price.
Girleight..ooh yes she has an overdraft already..and a loan..we had to pay for her first years accomodation though0 -
Have you spoken with any landlords yet ?
Reason I say is because I appeared at my viewing of this house with several months worth of bank statements to show I paid my bills etc
Interestingly last night on tenants from hell there was a massively good tip from a LL that has never evicted a tenant and instead worked with them. Get prospective LLs to visit you at your present home to show that you're a good tenant

When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.

INTERESTINGly there was a thread started on here yesterday with a huge smiley laughing at the difficulties landlords experience... and inviting MSEers to watch this programme... the thread has disappeared.......
We had a huge thread discussing Landlord Referencing Service which was closed due to tenant dissatisfaction ... but as soon as another thead is started on which landlords could show how THEY are badly done by.... it disappears..... mmmmmm .... bias ?0 -
hmmm can't really comment too much on that sorry Clutton I didn't see the thread on the programme. Unfortunately everyone gets tarnished by others. Bad tenants/good tenants bad LLs/good LLs.
I do however think you are a highly respected LL on this forum Clutton. I hope you take some measure of comfort from that
I would like an unbaised discussion on everything and personally would like to hear from LLs their experiences from bad tenants. Information and communication is what will make things better for everyone. In an ideal world bad tenants will be matched up with bad LLs and good tenants will find good LLs.Inside this body lays one of a skinny woman

Thank you Brb - that is most kind...... there are times when i get so much abuse that i seriously wonder why i bother.... its is most fortunate that MSE has an ignore button .......
i also quite often visit prospective tenants in their own homes, and have turned down a handful as a result.
I will also not take on tenants who refuse to give their current landlords a months notice, and are willing to just walk... .. if they do it to them.. the odds are they will do it to me...
Good landlord-tenant relationships, like any, are about communication. It saddens me when as a first post tenants come here to demand things..... asking is a much better ploy ... and can lead to much better communications.....
Tenants stop paying rent because a) their life style has changed, or because b) they have decided to steal from you.....
if it is a) then talk to them and get a signed payment plan going,
if its b) issue notice as soon as possible....
the vast majority of tenants are fine, ordinary folks who look after the prpoerty and live decent lives.... as are the majority of landlords...
Tarring the majority because of the minority simply makes it much more difficult to resolve disputes.0
