I've only had the car two weeks and have had to spend £360 on it as new battery, starter motor and tyre all had to be replaced. Grrr!! If I could save the cost of decoding it then that would be ace.

In this case the letter does not matter. The code for that serial is 0810.
Never trust serials or codes in vehicle paperwork; afraid you are going to have to remove the unit and get the number from the label. Before doing that try pressing 5+2 (or 6+2) on some units this will give the serial.
