I don't know why you would need compensation for it when you have clearly received the item, but I would certainly be looking to send then a strongly worded letter of complaint, and asking for a refund of the postage.

It happens all the time unfortunately and you can claim if they can't produce evidence of a signature. You need to fill in a P58 form:

    ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/public/ctf/rm/Inland_(2006current_version).pdf

This is a really bad service and one that gets lots of complaints.

Not sure on the advice I can offer you but a while ago my wife was an official exam marker and papers used to be delivered and had to be signed for in person. Once package was just left on our doorstep, bearing in mind we had a flat fronted house straight onto the pavement in an 'iffy' area. It was still there when we got in but she told the exam board and I know the delivery firm lost the contract over it. Fairly serious stuff methinks.

Yes, I agree, but the OP received her item, the P58 is for lost / damaged items, are you suggesting she claim fraudulently that she hasn't received the item?

It's what I was informed to fill in for when they can't produce the signature, to claim back the extra cost paid for the actual signature.

No, this is only something you have brought up. ;)

That's pretty standard with recorded delivery. A huge percentage don't get a signature. As Lynsey you can claim back the cost as they didn't provide the service you paid for. The form doesn't have anything specific for that but I just write it in the boxes. RM normally send you stamps as compensation

Although OP your tickets wouldn't have been insured they needed to be sent special delivery if they had got lost they wouldn't have paid compensation as RD does not cover tickets or items over £41.

Thank you and it's quoted here:
Will I always get a signature and does the person named on the address label sign for the item?
We make sure we get a signature from whoever receives the item, but bear in mind that this may not be the person named on the address label. If there's nobody available to sign for the item and the item is not collected or redelivery rearranged within seven calendar days, we return your mail free, with a note saying why we can't deliver it. On the rare occasions that we don’t get a signature for any other reason, we'll refund your money.

One local postman admitted that they were giving him so much area to cover he doesn't bother knocking if he has a recorded or parcel and just leaves it in the porch. Luckily we have a covered porch that cannot be seen into from the road!

Another local postman has so much he deliberately starts one end of the route one day and the other end the next so that people do get their mail at least every two days. The local office supposedly stopped any overtime being claimed and doubled the route lengths so they claimed their was no way they could complete the round within the allotted time.

Its not good and if your local office has been doing the same then this may explain why this is happening. Its definitely worth making a complaint even if all it does is put the local office under pressure to increase staff again.

I would have thought the sender has a case to claim the service they paid for wasn't provided, but the OP (as the recipient) has a much weaker case (presumably they paid the ticket suppliers, and they paid RM).
