16 stone is fat no matter what your height. Big lad doesn't come into it - he's obese, simple as. And if he can down a whole chicken, no wonder!

Not for a man at 6ft + its not.

Most of the Gladiators (from the TV show) would be 16 st & so are a lot of muscular men.

Well I thought I'd update you all since you've all been kind enough to offer me so much helpful advice.
When he came in from work last night I said "vege chilli ok for you ,I thought it might be a nice healthy change since you've eaten so much meat these past few days".He did'nt look pleased went up for a shower and came down and said he thought he'd get something when he went out so not to bother for him.
I plucked up the courage at that point to say that whatever he fancied he just had to bring in and I'd be happy to cook it for him, making the excuse that since we don't eat meat here I'm useless at knowing what to buy.He was a bit quiet at breakfast but I feel/am hoping he may have taken the point.
I intend to do vege again tonight since after reading all the replies I feel rather empowered :rotfl:..

Thats the way to go, tell him what you are doing that evening & say if you want something different bring it in & you will cook it or likewise if he wants the same as you with a side portion of meat to just choose the meat & bring it in;)

    I bet he gets takeaways:rotfl:

Well done for standing up to him, it must have been difficult but I'm glad you felt able to.

  • I am so pleased you have managed to resolve this, and in such a nice way too. Far better for you (and your budget) than to say nothing and just seethe.

Hopefully this will have given you the courage to deal with any other situations, that may arrive in the future, where you feel put upon, taken advantage of or just plain abused.

    Well done you. :T

My DH is 6ft 2in and generally weights about 16/16.5 stone and he is solid muscle....definately not fat and eats a huge ammount of food, but not a whole chicken in one sitting!:rotfl:
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion

Well done for taking a stand. It isn't easy trying to be tactful to visitors who abuse your hospitality but I think you hit exactly the right note by telling him you'll be happy to cook whatever meat he brings in. I think he's now been hoist by his own petard and if does so and dares to suggest being refunded, I suggest you look at him innocently and say "Oh dear, I can't afford to do that. The cost of meat is just one of the reasons why we're vegetarians. Perhaps your parents can give you a "sub" if your company isn't paying you any Bed & Board accommodation costs like most companies do."

Keep us updated but don't allow yourself to be emotionally blackmailed by a 16 year old. He's already getting a very good deal from you in terms of free accommodation.

I would have lost the plot with him long ago.

He'll be asking you to let out his trousers next, when he can't get his expanding belly into them.

Sounds like you handled the situation tactfully, well done! I thin your OH might be right, the lad knows you don't eat meat and maybe he's worried you'll be upset if he doesn't eat it all you 'bought it specially for him', coming from a home where money is not an issues will also mean he is used to eating what ever he wants- you are probably teaching him an important lesson about life!!! Good on yer!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

Well if you're putting him up as a favour for training I think for his and your sake you need to have the conversation NOW re some board and lodging money. Seeing as you're saving him a fortune for not having to pay for it.

I'd say something like ' I just wondered whether you'd prefer to either give some money/contribution straight to me to get your shopping in over the next few weeks or you'd prefer to get it yourself. I'm only asking as we've seen a huge jump in our shopping bills as your a meat eater and we're not and you obviously have a healthy appetite, if you feel you can't then I'm afaraid you'll have to have what we have and it'll be smaller portions as I have to factor in my budget. You are aware how much things cost aren't you?'

If he is training away from home for a company then he will be receiving payment for it (I did this for someone once and we both did very nicely out of it).
Putting him up is one thing, but he's an adult and so should be able to shop and cook for himself. If you do plan to continue feeding him, just speak to him honestly and say that you really can't afford to provide the size of meals he requires as they are much bigger than you had expected to provide, and see what he says - you can offer to provide extra bread and veg if he needs them. The size of portions he is eating would not be obtained even in a 'big-eating' restaurant, so if he really requires so much then he does need to either sort his own food out or fill up with other stuff. He can always feed himself at restaurants... then see how much meat he eats!!!

My other half and I have been known to eat a whole, largish chicken between us, BUT we knew that we were being REAL pigs and it would only be done if we got a special bargain - one piece of the chicken should be enough (unless it's a wing of course! :) )

P.S - Oops, I didn't realise that this was 4 pages long and we were past the 'support' stage :) Well done for taking your stand - there are too many people who take the mickey.
